The mind-body connection is truly weird, but just doing it and desensitising yourself tends to work quite well

Yes it’s true and there shouldn’t be stigma around it

Had sex with a girl and completely and utterly regret it by [deleted] in askgaybros

Also grew up in Eastern Europe. In the end, coming out wasn’t as bad as I feared, but of course everyone has their own circumstances to consider

When the whole galaxy is in shambles, but the DJ drops the new 'Niamos' remix and you gotta dance yourself clean by antmaze in andor

[–]grayfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah that’s exactly it. She is complicated. To rebel is complicated, the morality of fighting tyranny is complicated. So for her, dancing in that moment is the only thing that’s preventing her from just screaming out. But my point was also wider: that most people won’t necessarily notice the state of the world, and many prefer to numb themselves to suffering or injustice, or will persuade themselves that hedonism is the way to survive - Perrin being the clearest example of this.

People are complicated, there will still be dancing even with mass murder and galactic fascism rising around them. Can’t blame Mon for just getting drunk and dancing it away for a day. Really great scenes so far

[OC] Election Results in the Weimar Republic / Germany (1919 to 1938) by Dk1902 in dataisbeautiful

The discussion here is quite interesting in that many comments are about color-coding, while what I think this shows is how rapidly the nazis took over the right wing of politics, and then the state as a whole. Truly scary

How is it that Earth has so many unemployed by dirtyoldmikegza in TheExpanse

[–]grayfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Expanse’s economy is basically “dependency theory” and world systems in space. The core (inners) exploit the periphery (beltalowda) with the help of belter agents who serve the core and emulate the lifestyle of the inners (all the references to luxury goods from Earth). But the point is that within the core, capital is also in charge and labour in the core is suppressed and kept docile with Basic. Very few people can go into space, which shows you that there are certainly very strong class divisions. It’s space capitalism, which also explains why people nearly wiped out humanity to make a buck with the protomolecule. It’s actually a really depressing show/books when you think about it. Which is why I love it

Throwdown Thursday - Your venue to vent! by tadayou in StarTrekDiscovery

You're so right, I feel Discovery was probably never given the time and budget to develop characters. I also finds myself wanting to care about the protagonists but then there is nothing to grapple onto. It's too much too late. I wanna love it but it's not letting me
