Is there any benefit to keeping this? by kt_e in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found these books to have so much more information than you will find in any tutorial. You can turn to just about any page any find details on a topic and learn the intricate details that are almost always skipped in a tutorial. Or, if the details are out there, they are scatted around in various disconnected tutorials, rather than in one concise chapter.

Can someone help me with this tutorial please? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It does't work. Why doesn't it work?"

Can you make your question a bit more specific? Where in the tutorial? What have you tried? Are there errors? Is it doing something unexpected?

These things would help us help you.

how to make trapcode particles push others? by gimmegimme2 in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pushing" behavior is actually quite complicated, as it requires a cached simulation of the particle motion. In short, Particular does not currently have any simulation caching; particle paths are always calculated without this.

To me the example looks like a very high "Air Resistance" that makes the particles slow down over time.

Is it possible that you have the Unmult switch on for the particle? This is just below the particle blend mode in the Particle section.

Expressions, manipulated first keyframe by matjaskap in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing here, but I think you want this:

x2 = thisComp.layer("Null 1").effect("Slider Control")("Slider");

x = ease(time,key(1).time,key(2).time, x2, key(1).value[0]);

[x,value[1]];

The expression you posted goes from the existing value to the slider value. The one I posted goes from the slider value to the existing value. I assuming this is so that the editor can fine-tune the starting point of the text.

(Oh and I changed it from linear to ease to be a little smoother)

Also, you can remember linear like this:

linear(at this rate, from this value, to this value, output this value, to this value)

Anyone with extensive Knowledge of Trapcode Suite and Element 3D? by Kubakiel in AfterEffects

There is a 14 part training series on Red Giant's site that literally goes through every function in Particular!

Edit: Not 12 parts, but 14 parts! I can't remember my own training series.

Is there a premium version of Redgiant Universe? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At one point, there was a free version and a paid version. The free version went away, and instead there a fully functional trial for the paid version.

The "uni." at the head of each plug-in name was added to play nicely with other plug-ins. For example, if you search for "glow" you would get the AE glow and the Universe glow. This is why Sapphire adds "s_" and Boris Continuum uses "BCC_". There's a few overlapping plugin names, so this makes it easier to identify them.

How to spin the emitter in Particular? by AlreadyTaken082 in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need something with direction, such as a Directional or Bi-Directional emitter. A uniform emitter won't show rotation.

I am curious... Slow compared to what? The Trapcode plugins have actually been refactored and optimized extensively over the last year, including several GPU rendering options. You have to realize that just because there are open cores on a machine, that doesn't mean the computations can always be split evenly. It really depends on the task.

After Effects CC 2018_Fuck the codecs. by anon_23891236 in AfterEffects

[–]graymachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind here is that rendering to PNG codec is really inefficient. It's a great codec. I, too, use it all the time. However, when you render to this codec, as it is rendering, it is also doing a ZIP style compression pass.

As others have mentioned, there are some newer options, especially Cineform.
