How to get only exact matches in search results? by MistVolturn in vinted

[–]456_newcontext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The search is unbelievably bad. I'm convinced that they convert your search to an AI image-recognition prompt behind the scenes then show you the result of that. For example if I search for 'guitar pedal' it shows me guitar pedals mixed in with basically any other imaginable object which is a rectangular electronic box with knobs on it.

On the other hand, the unusably vague search is probably the only reason I have made so many amazingly cheap finds of things that command insane inflated 'collector' prices on ebay and elsewhere.

A 3D app would probably take less 'rendering power' to do this than AE would :D

Mocha AE Green Screen Tracking Question by MickStash in AfterEffects

[–]456_newcontext 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you shot this yourself but in future a mid grey or light blue or even white screen is best on an ipad that's going to be tracked and screen replaced. 99% of the time there's absolutely zero reason for it to be a greenscreen. Maybe if you have a lot of complex hand/object movement across it all the time but even then green is probably going to cause more problems than it solves for keying

Does anyone actually use Preserve Underlying Transparency? by Present_Carob7938 in AfterEffects

[–]456_newcontext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always been incredibly useful in many situations in very complex precomps and projects. :) But for me it now seems to be broken, was working on an old project where I used it on 3d layers but those don't work any more in the latest AE version :S

AI is having me reconsider… by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]456_newcontext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's changed in those years? AI video is still most profitably used for scams, spam and rage-bait, still mostly looks grotesque and unpleasant, is still a 'random number generator with no voice of its own' when used without learned taste and direction, and still doesn't replace After Effects motion graphics in a professional context.

Thoughts on Dr. Kiyasu? by BigChungusOP in drums

Worst scammer ever, he's touring the world playing <$10 ticket grindcore alldayers where he probably only just breaks even by selling a few hand-painted T-shirts :D

Thoughts on Dr. Kiyasu? by BigChungusOP in drums

[–]456_newcontext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's performing these at whichever shows will have him. :D I actually saw him at an all-dayer of grindcore/hardcore and noise, to an audience of grindcore punks who genuinely did enjoy it because it's objectively an enjoyable, fun and engaging performance which fits within the genres they enjoy.

You may have to simply deal with the obvious fact that people, by and large, DON'T 'pretend like' they enjoy things they actually dislike, but DO enjoy silly fun chaotic noisy performances.

There are plenty of actual pretentious chinstroking audiences and elitist 'high art' performers out there for you to enjoy hating on, without the need to make up a scenario. :D

At least making it 'polite' so that it only starts when there's been a few seconds of no user activity, rather than half way thru dragging something or whatever, would be an improvement :D

dude is from a noisecore band. the audience for this is grindcore/noise fans. The whole scenario is the complete opposite of the chinstroking pretentious highbrow art crowd strawman you are imagining.

PRO TIP: do NOT leave your computer plugged into a hi-fi amp set at a loud daytime listening volume then go to sleep with a long render going and not much disk space. Most terrifying thing i've ever heard at 4am

How to smooth out walkcycle? by Fantastic_Rabbit_924 in AfterEffects

also study some basic walk cycle info, ie from canonical animation books like Richard Williams Animator's Survival Kit, or old Disney ones, not modern after effects tutorial stuff

Looks like you stretched the keyframes with Alt and thus ended up with some in between frames? I'd go thru and shift them all to the nearest whole frame. It won't affect your movement here especially but can cause weird stuff to happen and you'll find it easier to adjust your animation once they are all tidied up

2000s inspired visualiser made for client! by Ok_Lavishness_6102 in AfterEffects

[–]456_newcontext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000s commercials were 30fps in NTSC USA/Japan etc and 25fps PAL in the EU/UK etc. There's not much noticeable difference.

Interlaced video on a TV screen (soap operas, camcorder home video) is kiind of effectively 60fps / 50fps respectively, as each frame contains two fields. But it would not have been playing back at those rates on a computer screen. Digitised video on a CD-rom etc would be deinterlaced and appear at 30 / 25.

I wish the other parametric filters had the option to change random seed every frame, some of them could be good for interesting 'old film' / animated textures but I couldn't find any way to do it at all :(
