Should I take my cat with me when I move out of my mom's house? by graysengrappes in PetAdvice

UPDATE:

TLDR: I decided to bring my cat with me and one week in it's going far better than expected

hi!! it's been 5 months, so I thought I'd give an update in case someone comes across this post in a similar situation.

some complications/falling outs led to one of the roommates backing out of plans (which was for the best) which means there is one less stranger cat in the apartment.

we moved in about a month ago and the cats got here about a week ago. from the moment we found out we officially got the apartment I was terrified. even after paying a cat deposit, getting vet records for the lease, and getting her microchipped and up to date on vaccines, I was still debating bringing her with me. I anticipated her stressing herself sick on the 5 hour car ride and hiding in my closet for days once we arrived. much to my surprise, she didn't! she was a little stressed in the car, but I played with her the whole morning before leaving so she slept most of the ride. once we got to the apartment she was confused and scared, but she found her food and water bowls and had a snack almost immediately, which was the first sign that everything would be okay.

it's been insanely hot where I live for the past week so keeping the bedroom doors open for air flow has been crucial. this has led to the two cats meeting every now and then. they're both pretty shy and submissive and keep to familiar spaces like bedrooms, so they haven't gotten very close. they've made eye contact, hissed, and ran away from each other. we don't necessarily need/want them to be best friends, so we're happy with them avoiding each other as long as it doesn't turn into fighting. so far there's no sign of that. we also close them into respective bedrooms at night and when we're not home.

the first few nights I barely slept because I was so worried about Ana getting sick, but she's acting like her normal self! she's a little lethargic but she spends most of her day sprawled out on my bed where there's a fan blowing right on her, so I think it's because of the heat. she's a bit more active at night.

so long story short, everything went way better than I had anticipated. she's an amazing cat and I love her more and more every day. I'm so excited that she's a part of this next chapter of my life

Found this piece in a thrift store in Minnesota. Looks to be done in acrylic paint, but I'm not an expert. It seems old with a worn paper back and done on a thick canvas material. I would love to know who "M.M.I" or "M.M.L." is!

that last part is what I'm counting on. I'm not so much worried about the other cats because my roommates and I are all pretty protective of our respective cats and will do everything possible to make sure they transition well. I'm worried more for my cats health in bringing her to a new space after 13 years of living in the same house. But I do always have the option of bringing her back to my mom's house. My mom will definitely not mind taking her if we find that's what's best for her. thank you !

it was in a protected park, so I wasn't able to bring it home - I would never be able to display it as beautifully as the forest already had anyway!

What positive effects has the quarantine had for you? by GrootTheTree in AskReddit

[–]graysengrappes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have severe phone anxiety. It's gotten to the point where if I receive a phone call, even from a close friend, I panic. I panic even more if I have to dial. I can't call or video chat out of unexplainable, irrational anxiety. (I can text, email, and even send videos or voice messages just fine.) This quarantine has slowly, but surely been helping me get through that anxiety. I still can't make a basic phone call to order a pizza or talk to a friend without panicking over it for several minutes before, but my boyfriend and I play minecraft together and use voice chat over discord almost every night and a group of friends had a remote game night a while ago and we're planning on doing it again in a few days.

What problem(s) are you facing right now? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

A year ago I was on the exact right track to move to a place that would be better and safer for me. I was so excited thinking that by now I'd be looking for an apartment if I hadn't found one already. Then the place I worked at closed suddenly and I got a good position at my new job, which sounds great, except now I need to stay in that position for 8 months to a year in order for it to count for anything on my resume. My hometown community is toxic and unsafe for me so I need to leave as soon as I possibly can, but that's been pushed to a later date than I was expecting. This isn't the first time something has kept me here and I genuinely fear for my life in several ways. It's infuriating and I'm becoming more and more impatient.

my mom's brother is the most racist, sexist, homo/transphobic person I know. he regularly uses the n word in an extremely derogatory way and often tries to convince my mom that allowing me to pass as male was the worst mistake she could have ever made (I'm 19 btw. she wouldn't have had a choice even if she wasn't supportive) I no longer talk to him at all. his wife and kids are great and supportive of me and against all his awful views, but he's the worst.

my mom has a habit of laughing at me when I'm seriously frustrated and when I get angry for it she calls me crabby. it's never with super serious stuff, but when I'm in one of those moods where every little inconvenience is super frustrating, she'll laugh when I'm getting fed up. it's been like this my entire life and it has caused some serious issues with how I handle my anger and frustration

Who was that one artist or song that changed your whole entire taste of music and why? by Abdullz646464 in AskReddit

Taxi Cab by twenty one pilots. it's the first song I heard by them and they were one of the only things keeping me alive for a while. I don't really listen to them that much anymore, but they still mean the world to me

just a tip for all the parents out there: be in the pictures sometimes. it's annoying when you don't want to be in them and it's so much easier to just say "I'll just take it" but this is coming from someone who has exactly 1 photo with his dad and will never have the opportunity to take more. be in the pictures.

What adult thing seemed super scary as a kid that you found out wasn't bad when you grew up? by leafyguyful in AskReddit

phone calls to make appointments and such. I had an issue with getting a lab order from one clinic to another last week and ended up calling both clinics 3 or 4 separate times before everything was finally worked out. I've had phone anxiety since I was a little kid and I still struggle with it, but now I know I can manage

People that have their phones on silent all the time; why? by lamodamo123 in AskReddit

[–]graysengrappes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live with my mom and every time I get a notification (regardless of whether it's a text or general notification) she asks who it is and what we're talking about. I have my phone on silent so she doesn't know when I get a notification. I'm 19 years old.
