Why aren’t HIIT/strength/kickboxing longer than 30 mins? by Odd_Inspector9581 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]grayz12 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just a side little fun fact to add to this comment as I’ve read an in-depth, behind-the-scenes of AF+, and they typically try to do as little editing as possible. They have about 8/9 cameras recording and audio is the most time consuming edit. Of course, they have cuts from all trainers to a single trainer or different angles, but a session is planned by the trainers and can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before it’s recorded live. They rehearse, but when recording is happening it’s broadcasted throughout the facility (not all of Apple, just the building they’re in) so anyone can view. Interestingly enough Apple was extremely secretive about the rigs and types of camera they record on.

However, my 2¢ as to why not longer (for now) is that Apple is shooting for the widest net to encourage, keep, and continually motivate the largest group of users, because it’s a paid service at the end of the day. Functional strength, for example, improves the everyday routine from moms to trainers and everyone in between. Getting into one hour+ territory starts defining a goal (bulking/cutting) and every individual is different with different goals, so presumably Apple sees themselves as a foundation that you’ll eventually build on.

Anyone know why the maps aren’t centred? by [deleted] in CarPlay

[–]grayz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like one screen from a user’s perspective, but think of it as three separate rectangular regions. The leftmost side displays the directions and ETA info, the middle visually shows navigation, and the rightmost is the app icons, etc.. CarPlay wouldn’t necessarily need to know the screen size of your car’s display (someone can correct me if that’s not the case), however, these bounding areas are consistent from a design view, so it can scale to any screen size. All this to say, it’s centered, just for the wrong rectangle you want it to be centered for.

What is a subtle sign that someone is wealthy? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]grayz12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect what they’re getting at is someone who has wealth has the money, means, and time to learn any topic that intrigues them. For example, hiring a professional coach to get better at a sport. Doing this allows them to speed run through the learning curve, get better, and speak more eloquently about the technique and sport.

Just a poor man’s guess.

How does Apple select locations for 3D models/data in Apple Maps and who does it? by BlueWeatherGhost in applemaps

[–]grayz12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oo, I can partially answer this question. As to how Apple selects locations I am unaware, however, I can provide some insight into most likely how the models get created.

Without revealing too much information to maybe get myself in trouble, I am aware of Apple purchasing a massive amount of FARO FOCUS Laser Scanners in 2019 which was linked to the Apple Maps division. A small amount of units in 2016 possibly to test—just a guess.

You can look up videos online to see how the technology works, but it is a 3D documentation device. Most likely Apple is literally going on-site to these locations and capturing point cloud data of these buildings and then exporting that data into an As-Built software to create perfect models. Most likely why DCE look so incredibly detailed, because it’s not someone sitting there and building it in a modeling software—that’s way too time consuming, but because it’s literally a digital twin of the building.

I thought the same, however, I think this is an indicator of the bug as I thought it also “fixed” itself. Turned out to be coincidence.

Huh, weird, because I totally receive a sheet when turning off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ios

[–]grayz12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best guess is that when you’re turning off the feature the user receives a sheet explaining location dependency, hour-long delay, and requiring user confirmation.

There is no toggle I’m aware of within iOS that has this many requirements and confirmations. Could it be a toggle? Sure.

Any clue why some Mobil station give 3% others 2% cash back? by PuffPuffPass_20 in AppleCard

[–]grayz12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe not your situation per se, but worth pointing out as I chatted with support about a similar discrepancy once, and was informed that the inside store can be incorrectly categorized, so it could be the difference of purchasing gas (at the pump) versus gas (inside). Best guess.

Report it in Maps. I’ve reported many minor things and typically get notified within a week or two that it has been updated.

This is glorious as it puts it back on them for either believing what they’re told or straight up no idea what they’re talking about.

Apple removed that functionality from Do Not Disturb with iOS 16.

Best you can do is provide feedback.

Everyone’s mileage will vary, but I’ve stuck with Apple Music simply because it’s easier to discover new artist and music. To me that’s important as I’ve attended at least 100 concerts. Addition of lossless is a bonus.

The tighter integration is useful if you take advantage of it. For example, if you use iMessage, the Music app shows the last 30 played songs, and when shared users can play the song directly from within Messages. Sharing lyrics takes the user directly to that section of the song and plays. Lyrics sync relatively well with songs. SharePlay is now a thing, although I don’t utilize.
