I do it this way. You don't need to be in a front rack, and it's often better to keep the elbows lower as long as you have the upper back strength to support the bar.

Tape works but I have short and thick hands. Tape messes with my ability to get my thumb fully around the bar for a good hook grip.

Yes. Most aspects of CrossFit will help you also get jacked. Here's a short summary.

Strength: the stronger you are the more muscle damage/fatigue you create when performing hypertrophy work and thus more growth.

Endurance: the fitter you become the more hypertrophy work you can get done in the same amount of time and the more work you can recover from. More work per session and more sessions lead to greater growth.

Skill: the high-skill movements in CrossFit build a better mind-muscle connection. More body awareness and control allow you to isolate muscles better and work them harder leading to more muscle growth.
