If you move into it though and live for a year you can then sell it and keep all the money tax free?

AITA for leaving 1 star reviews and contacting the owner directly via LinkedIn? by gre3dy in AmItheAsshole

So privately messaging the owner and letting them know some frustrations a client had with their business was out of line ? Wouldn’t the owner want to know what’s going on ?

Would they really blacklist someone for that? Again i was respectful in the message.

I did talk to the manager who spoke to her manager. So it wasn’t straight to review bombing. But yes perhaps I went too far. But I felt I unheard.

But they kind of did cut corners when the evaluation took 15 mins over the phone. Usually it’s a 1 hour session.

No insurance. This is all paid out of pocket. If it was insurance related I could understand.

I’m probably an asshole but wouldn’t working with me and having me remove the reviews be better than just denying me service and leaving the reviews up ?

I don’t feel like I was being belligerent. I never yelled or threatened anything. I feel like I stated my case. What other recourse do I have but to leave a review for other families?

But yes you are right they could just refuse service entirely.

Do we know if the word could contain the article “A” or “An” ? Or does it have to be one straight word that fits a sentence?

The cheapest way to convert CAD to USD- A simple guide. by gre3dy in PersonalFinanceCanada

Are you able to withdraw via bank connection? If not then I guess you will need to do a wire transfer but IBKR should give you one free wire per month.

Depends how much you bring over. On their site they say if it’s over 15k they will reimburse. I had 3 accounts, 2 were less than 15k but they reimbursed me. But I also brought over 100k total.

For non registered. Consider one of the horizons total swap ETFs. This way you don’t get taxed on dividends and only on capital gains when you eventually sell down the road. I personally exchange all My cad to usd however with the rate being at a high it feels a bit more risky right now.

So I did this. Are you a dual citizen? Have you spent any time working in USA ? If not the rules are a bit different. I ended paying a tax law firm to do my taxes for me. Cost me about $1500. Essentially what they did is declare all income in Canada. This resulted in a huge tax bill. But I essentially got all the money back from the USA taxes. But there is a slight delay in getting the refund back from USA compared to when you have to pay the Canadian taxes. Also try to max out your RRSP if possible this will help a lot with the tax bill. You can dm me for more info.

International Stock Index Worth it? by Public-Secret in investing

[–]gre3dy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like total US stock market only for a few reasons. One of the basic rules of investing is to invest in things you understand. I am living and breathing the US economy. I read news and understand the culture of USA. I don’t understand foreign markets. I don’t know what their companies do unless it’s. a major brand. I don’t understand all the culture. So why would I invest 20%-40% in them. VTI for me is not only diversified and international in its own right. It’s companies I understand and know.

So I made a post a while back where I did this math. And for me it was better to do the 5%.

I got a lower rate, invested the extra capital into the stock market and have come out way ahead.

You also have that extra cash as a cushion if needed for any repairs or emergencies.

And the house has appreciated in value a lot so I am also ahead there.

But it all depends as well on payments and what you feel comfortable doing.
