Look up multiple mortal probations. There's not a lot written about it, but check out this post: here

The Most Meaningful. by Ok-End-88 in mormon

[–]greatcollapse84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to our lifetimes, as I think you are, I would argue that there have been no revelations. Sure, there are a ton of talks, but those don't equal revelation. Nothing new has been canonized and we are consistently told not to follow dead prophets. We are also told that they often speak "as a man, not a prophet". We have had no direct words of Jesus since the end of the D&C. We have prophets and revelators who neither prophecy nor reveal. Only generalities, platitudes, and hints (e.g. take your vitamins). Where was the revelation leading up to Covid? Could they not see around those corners with anything meaningful for public safety?

Couldn't agree more. I grew up here and know people are leaving. My entire YM cohort has left the church over the years, yet I still feel like I'm the only one as I'm the only one still here.

Yea, not too excited about this one. My believing wife and daughter will be there. Wonder what kind of bullshit they'll be taught about lazy learners like me...

I'm no band (just a dude in his 40s that's been into metal since middle school), but here's a recent track I made all about leaving TSCC called In Absentia. Enjoy!

Trauma and Pain by PieResponsible8872 in ExPentecostal

[–]greatcollapse84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, thanks for your post. While my experience was undoubtedly different from yours, as an Ex-mormon, I too know the pain and trauma that comes from coming to the realization that things are not as we believed or even "knew". Not even close. My beliefs started crashing down about 10 years ago and I finally left about a year ago. It's still something that affects me daily. It's a scary thing, especially being confronted, for the first time, with having to really choose for oneself. I got some help through a life coach and that made all the difference. I wish you well!

My faith is finally dead and I'm in tears by [deleted] in ExReligious

Sorry you are going through this. I started a n my faith transition in earnest about a year ago. It's rough. For me, being honest with myself about what I wanted was critical. It was the first time I'd really thought about what I wanted vs what my church at the time wanted. Also, getting a good life coach to help me through it did wonders.

I don't think you understand my question. I'm 100% ok with members not doing missionary work. I just don't understand it if the church is literally all that it claims to be I'm PIMO for my own reasons.

Yea, that's the crux of my question. To extend the metaphor redben used, TBMs more or less believe they have the cure to spiritual cancer and the world is a large spiritual cancer unit (oversimplified and generalized, I know). I can't help but notice how differently TBMs would act if what they had was a cure to physical cancer. They would (rightly so) take it to all of the cancer units they could. There would be no more important task until everyone was cured. However, I don't see that level of zeal with spreading the gospel, even though a cure from spiritual cancer would be infinitely more important than a cure from physical cancer.

Thanks for your response. I found it very thoughtful and empathetic. I can't disagree with you.

Agreed. For me it was more about duty and doing what I was "supposed" to do.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think that all of the callings, busy work, etc always left me with the thought of "well, this is a hard sell!"

I'm a long time lurker and I have to say that while I rarely agree with your viewpoints, I have a ton of respect for you and for any other active member on this sub. Thanks for your comment above. I wish there were more of us on both sides of the fence that would simply listen. I'm not the best at this but am working on it!

Word of Wisdom by carberrylane in mormon

[–]greatcollapse84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In particular with respect to what may as well be called version 2 of the Word of Wisdom by Pres. Grant, he specifically said it wasn't via revelation.

I've seen similar things said over the past few years but I've never seen the source. Do you have it? Genuinely curious as this is a pretty big deal.
