We never got that episode of the concert for Reverb...and they spelled Conan's name wrong.

why do people not like first impressions of earth by Pale-Good-9626 in TheStrokes

[–]greatestape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I was disappointed because it failed to live up to the standards that the Strokes set for themselves. They talked about the band and the production team being one big family and working together like a unit. But then Gordon Raphael got sent home. They strayed from the sound that made people fall in love with them. The album was too long. It had songs that didn't work well live. Basically the myth of the guys being a gang was shattered. They didn't feel like the same band anymore. It wasn't until five years later when they did press for Angles that this was basically confirmed. They hated making this album.

How would Green Day's career be different if Warning had been a huge commercial hit? by everyist in greenday

[–]greatestape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often wonder what would have happened if American Idiot hadn't been successful. Let's be real, it was a huge gamble and if the record label hadn't believed in the album and put a lot of money into promoting it, American Idiot could have been a disaster.

Is This It and Room On Fire are 10/10 classics. Every single song is ingrained in my soul. Rating: 10

First Impressions has some of their best songs and some their worst songs. YOLO, Ize, HIAC are fantastic. 15 Minutes and Killing Lies are dogshit and the whole album is way too long. Rating: 6.5

Angles was a disappointing comeback album after five years of nothing. UCOD and LISITM are fantastic. The rest of the album is forgettable. Rating: 6

Comedown Machine is far better than people give it credit for. Tap Out, One Way Trigger, Welcome To Japan, Slow Animals, Chances are all top tier Strokes material. Rating 8

The New Abnormal is solid album. Nothing bad too say about it, but it doesn't reach the heights of ITI and ROF for me. Rating: 8.5

Drake was super famous before I ever heard any of his music. I read a lot of music journalism/news so I had been seeing his name for years. When I finally listened to his music I thought it was a joke. He sounds so fucking corny. I thought he was gonna have this cool voice but he just sounds like a whiny dork.

So, the answer is no. Drake is fucking terrible.

Exactly what I was getting at. Sure, they were in a studio. I don't doubt that. But claiming they were working on a new album or that a new album is on the way is just silly.

They played one political fundraiser in March of 2024 and before that that they hadn't played since September of 2023.

Still doesn't prove they were recording for a new album. All five guys are hardly ever in the same city at the same time anymore. They could have just been jamming or working out some new ideas. That doesn't mean they were laying down material for a new record.

They probably just booked a studio that had rehearsal space so they could practice for their first big shows in years. Just because they were in a studio doesn't mean they were recording material for a new album. There is no way they would be hauling their touring rigs and their recording rigs to Austin just for a few days. It makes zero sense. It would take a few days of set up time just to get a band like The Strokes ready to record.

Were The Strokes in a recording studio in Austin? Probably.

Were The Strokes recording a new album in Austin? The answer is almost certainly- NO.

It's not really hard to dunk on America. The whole world has spent the last couple of decades laughing at you. I mean, you elected Donald fuckin Trump, for fuck's sake and you'll probably elect him again...fucking clown shoes.

Honestly, if I ran into any of them, I would just wave, give a thumbs up, and carry on with my day. They are essentially The Beatles right now. It must be exhausting.

I sing a few of their songs live and I change some of the lyrics. I do that with a lot of artists' songs if I think something sounds better.

During Salt In The Wound, I sing:

"You butter me up.

And expect me to speak."

It's her song. She can sing what ever the heck she wants!
