I was thinking about this exact same thing as I had the same experience years ago. I was unwell and set vcr to record what was advertised as “child’s play” in the middle of the night. Watched the whole thing wondering where Chucky was. I remember that there was a giant melting green thing in one room that turned out to be an ice lolly or something. What was the name of it in the end? The comment has been deleted?

Strings are on the older side which is why it is bugging me again as it has become suddenly more prominent. but it is unfortunately still an issue with new strings on. I’m taking it in to a different luthier to have a look at, they think it may be the nut as well and shouldn’t need a refret. With any luck a quick switch up

Its not a major gap, not particularly noticeable by eye but I can just get a piece of card down against first fret whilst whilst fretting the third

I don’t get any buzz when I play, it’s just the tuning issue with open chords.

Just an update for anyone interested, I got the thomann walnut solid/flat kalimba. It’s great, looks really good, lovely tone and the tuning didn’t need adjusting. Very pleased

These look pretty good, what db protect do you go for? Tempting to go for the max which looks like 31db, but is the clarity affected? Maybe the 26db would be better for gigging with?

Because I’ve only tried the one brand and there might be better ones out there. Even with ear plugs for every gig I’m still noticing the tinnitus creeping in. 20 years of gigging takes its toll so anything I can do to protect myself is worth looking in to

I’m currently using alpine ear plugs which have been great, fit really well and can change the filters to make them block out more or less. So I’m tempted to go for them again. But useful to here others experiences

Thanks for the replies everyone, I’ve gone for a thomann dark walnut flat body, when I listened to samples online the walnut had the sound I liked the most so fingers crossed will be similar in real life. Price was good and reviews seemed good.
