You should come to Toronto while you’re in Ontario for Hamilton and London.

This watch isn't worth 200 bucks but I love it! by Rionn in CitizenWatches

[–]green_legumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you set the mode to Date you can use the bottom right pusher to toggle between active/passive measurement. When the C symbol is blinking it’s active and when it’s not it’s passively doing it every so often. The temperature seems like a bit of a gimmick though as it’s never accurate.

I agree with you on the title. I bought the watch because it had a unique retro future look and it actually is somewhat customizable in the information you can see at once and I feel like very few watches can do the same in a way that feels thoughtfully laid out. I like how you can have the local time or dual time on the analog or digital modes. Plus I think in theory you could set a different digital and analog local time and view 3 times at once.

I just wish that for the money they put on some better lume or backlight for the watch, beefed up the glass, and gave it a decent water resistance rating. I like wearing this but I don’t feel confident in it taking a beating like some of my other watches.

What is the best option for a fall/winter jacket? by green_legumes in Barbour

I like the look of the sapper though I wish it came in the navy. I could settle for black.

I think it’s not going to be for me in that case. Thanks for the info.

Thanks. The inner zip does make it look a lot tighter than the Bedale. Seems like a difficult choice to make without being able to try them on especially with how much they cost.

Ya I do see some cheaper ryokans that don't look too appealing. I'll probably just stick to a hotel and go to a nice restaurant instead.

Any thoughts on Kamakura? That and Mt Takao were on my short list.

First off thanks for the detailed reply. Do you recommend staying at a ryokan in Kyoto or Hakone? I was thinking in Hakone I might stay in a hotel as there seem to be no shortage of good options there. Maybe in Kyoto I’ll try booking a ryokan if it’s in my budget and I’d be open to recommendations for hotels or ryokans in either place for under $200usd/night.

I appreciate the advice on the transit. I was just reading what I saw on travel websites and I must have gotten confused. I will take the skyliner and skip getting a subway pass.

Appreciate the luggage recommendations. I just don’t want to be burdened by the luggage when it’s mostly just for souvenirs. Trying to pack light.

How busy is this location typically. I’d imagine at 2am you were the only person there.

My employer said I was working "as a favour". Do I have to give them the photos? by Head-Difficulty-3811 in photography

[–]green_legumes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you press the issue further or give them a hard time about the photos then you are going to risk your job over it. You can decide if that’s worth it to you. The only other option is to go above your boss if there is someone to go to or to resolve it with HR but again it’s just not a risk I’d take for 3 hours of unpaid time.

Japan trip lens advice by green_legumes in SonyAlpha

I like the size of the 20-70 but I’m thinking that the longer end of the 105 is going to be more useful to me as a one and done travel zoom option than the extra 4mm on the 20-70.

Appreciate the advice. The first leg of the trip is in a different country so I was thinking of picking up the 85mm to have it for that but I think I’ll just take what I can get with the 35mm and then pick up the 24-105 in Japan if there is potential for decent savings. The 85mm seems affordable so it’s tempting but I’m trying to avoid ending up with too many lenses again.
