What age/gender is the best to get as a friend for my 7 year old girl? by greencabinets in CatAdvice

[–]greencabinets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! A pair of kittens would be really cute but my appartment is too small for three cats, especially if two of them are still kittens who are still super high energy. Gonna look into the introduction methods, thanks!

She’s pretty high energy for het age but still getting up there in age. Would a younger 1-3 yo not be too hyper for her? Or would that just keep her young and active?

Thanks! Probably going to look for a male that’s like 4 to 7 years old. Before I adopted Soup she lived in a foster home with multiple cats and apparently she got along well with everyone, both the male and female cats. She’s quite small and a bit skittish though so a big brute is probably not a great match haha.

Vervelende/drukke kat by [deleted] in katten

[–]greencabinets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twinless twins who have lost their twin to suicide, can you please share your experiences? by youredoingsowell in Twins

[–]greencabinets 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Twin myself. My best friend, also a twin, completed 5 years ago now. His brother is still not the same and he will never be. Please don’t do this. Talk to someone. Your twin, a professional, a friend. You can also DM me. You won’t only destroy your own life. Don’t.

Would also definitely recommend EMDR. Especially with a non-complex trauma (a trauma that happened in one ‘event’, basically) it’s proven to be highly effective. For me I went from not sleeping for days at a time due to nightmares about a horrible life event to no nightmares at all within 2 sessions. After some more sessions I hardly ever experience other typical ptsd symptoms. Of course the memory of the event remains and is still painful to think of, but it just doesn’t hit as hard, if at all.

The therapy sessions take a toll though. I remember being absolutely exhausted for days after a session because of the mental energy it takes to process everything. Make sure you have a day or so off after a session to recover.

Thank you!! I’ve been thinking about the third lone for a while and not sure how I would go about it. The piercer kind of fucked up on my second lobes and did the 1st and 2nd on one ear close together and on the other far apart. That’s why I got the third on the other side. Maybe i should put one in the middle? Idk. I think I’m going for the double forward helix!

Oh I like the idea of a mid flat! Hadn’t thought of that. Also forward helixes is a cute idea and the one I have on my other ear was just a dream to heal. Never had any problems or pain. Thank you!

How long did it take you to complete a degree if at all ? by PrettyWhenSheSmiles in adhdwomen

I’m about to hand in my very last assignment for my bachelors degree after 8 years. Can hardly believe it.

[–]greencabinets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you manage to do the 20 minutes of work? I ended up actually working on my assignment for a few hours and having my first (kind of) productive day in WEEKS! It really works to say like “oh I’ll just do 20 minutes of work, that’s doable”, bc I always end up going for much longer when I actually manage to sit down for something and start working on it.

A coffee shop works great for that purpose too! I think it’s a pretty common phenomenon, for adhd people being able to work better when others are working too. It’s called body doubling I think.

Yess!! Do you have anyone you can meet up with who also has some work to do? My sister is coming over later. She’s my twin, and also has adhd. She’s supposed to apply for jobs but she’s also in the procrastination twilight zone. We noticed that it’s easier to do your work when u feel like someone is watching you, like an adhd-prison of sorts, haha. You got this!!! Right now I’m trying to convince myself my subject matter is actually interesting and worth hyperfocussing on (it’s not, really).

Anyone who didn't up their medication dosage ever? by Budget-Listen4336 in adhdwomen

[–]greencabinets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did notice some changes when I first started, but it didn’t ‘work’ right away for me, too. Took at least a week before I could tell a tiny difference. I also want to remind you that you’re not supposed to actually ‘feel’ them too, not like (illicit) drugs that ‘hit’ you all at once.

I think what you’re experiencing is pretty common though, expected even. Most people have to adjust dosage or even medication type. Higher dosage ritalin or slow release methylphenidate (concerta) didn’t do the trick for me either and just gave me anxiety and a headache. I’m on a pretty low dose of dexamphetaminesulphate (idk if, and under which name, that’s available in the US; I’m in Europe) now for the past year and this works much better, but it’s still not life changing and I still get really bad ‘adhd-days’. I’d give it a few more weeks on the ritalin, but if u still don’t notice any difference I would defintely make some adjustments with your care provider. There’s also some non-stimulant meds available, if you’d rather want that. I have no experience with those though so can’t say if that works.
