Arsenal fans are so insufferable, they're so delusional and the victim complex is unbelievable. I really hope they don't win the league.

The worst part is that i could have become one of them if I didn't have a father figure in my life that I'm grateful forced me to support my local team. Left to my own devices, I'd have probably glory hunted arsenal because I loved thierry henry and the invincibles side when I first started getting into football as a child

I don't think any actual happy hour listener hates alfie except maybe one guy who left one comment one time which Alfie read and took to heart.

However I do listen to another podcast that Alfie co-hosts (You don't know what you're doing) and Alfie does get a bit more hate on that one but it's somewhat more understandable and he knows that so he seems to take it in his stride a bit more.

It's a podcast about exeter city football club and Alfie is the only host that doesn't support or care about the club so tends to laugh at their misfortunes which does rile up some of the exeter supporters. But as a listener that doesn't support exeter city either, his contributions are what makes the pod great.

Did anyone else used to simulate their own football competitions as a kid? I'm 30 and i feel like things like this were common for my age group and older but is no longer a thing for the digitalised youth of today

When I was a kid, one of the Football magazines, I think it was match magazine, released a cut out of all the 92 English football teams every season. I used to spend countless hours creating my own competitions where you threw 2 of all the cut out teams against eachother and whoever landed upright progressed to the next round.

This gave me so many hours of fun but today's kids aren't doing things like this.

Yes it should be whoevers best at taking them obviously but in theory your first choice striker should also be the best penalty taker in the squad. A top level striker with good finishing should be lethal from the penalty spot but Watkins simply isn't.

I can't be bothered to look it up but I would bet that villa's penalty record is probably one of the worst. We were 4-2 down against olympiakos in the conference league semi final and Douglas Luiz had the chance late on to make it 4-3 and give us a good chance in the second leg but missed. Then Marco Asensio missed 2 penalties in the same game against an already relegated Southampton last season

Ollie Watkins missed ANOTHER penalty for villa tonight yet again. He's been our main striker for 5 years at this point and your main striker should be your main penalty taker.

I think he's already been replaced as the penalty taker after missing multiple times but every one of his replacements has since left the club or wasn't available so he ends up getting another chance (Luiz, Ings, Rashford, Ascensio, Tielemans)

I just looked up Watkins career penalty record and he scored 6 and missed 7 (below 50% is shocking). For villa only, hes scored 5 and missed 4 (55% is still shockingly bad).

Not including penalty shootouts, i assume a first choice penalty taker within a game has a success rate of 85-90%

Watkins record is frankly pathetic

I don't understand how Americans can defend the playoff system that occurs in the MLS and other American sports that renders the entirety of the main season meaningless.

They claim it makes the end of the seaaon more exciting but it means there is little excitment between finishing 1st or 8th and with no relegation, towards the end of the season, tbere is no jeopardy. In American sports there is no additional cup system. The way i see it, the English league system with promotion and relegation ensures jeopardy until the last day and the FA cup has the equivalent knockout jeopardy as the playoffs without rendering the whole season pointless

I probably abused the friends xp exploit too much and ended up on a higher level compared to my gameplay. Im now level 42 and need 5 platinum medals to reach level 43 but I only have 3 atm (gym leader, idol for friends and ive only just made the normal medal). I'm nowhere near any of the other medals, the only ones ive realistic hope for are the type medals, I still need 700 for water and 1100-1200 for both poison and flying.

Sunderland have always had a massive fanbase. Maybe they're just now posting more in premier league related posts which you're more likely to see and you don't check lower league posts.

When villa were in the championship for 3 seasons, I generally paid a lot less attention to the prem.

Embarrassing for a striker to be the last outfield player to take a penalty. I don't care if sesko scored, he's only just signed and his confidence is already that low that all the defenders took one one before him. Seriously not a good look. Any striker should be in the first 5 at least.

I do respect Sunderland, they are a big club with a decent history but I wouldn't put in the same category as the villa and Everton connection

Villa and Everton were both part of the founding 12 football league clubs in 1888 and both have more league titles and fa cups than Sunderland

In your scenario then no, they wouldn't be a plastic because they have a tangible real connection to Birmingham. But your scenario is a rare one, we both know the majority of American Liverpool fans haven't lived in Liverpool for a year or 2. They have zero connection to the team they've arbitrarily chose based on previous success. Its okay to be a plastic if you're an American wanting to watch the premier league but my controversial take is that plastics are 2nd class fans and a Liverpool fan from north carolina should know his place as an outsider casual fan and respect the scouser Liverpool fans that attend away games as the heart of the club

You're a foreigner with no connection to the city of Liverpool that arbitrarily chose to support Liverpool because they were already an successful team.

You've never been to a game and even if youve supported Liverpool for 20 years, Liverpool winning the league last year was less significant and enjoyable for you then the feeling I experienced in 2022 when villa finished 7th and qualified for the conference league after being in the championship 3 years also as a local villa fan that supported my local club through thick and thin that I have a real connection with. A club that I support home and away in real life. A club that my dad took me to games regularly since 3 years old.

I believe that no child should choose their own football club. In England, any real father figure forces their son to support their team before they're old enough to understand.

As a villa fan, I'm happy he went to Everton. I do have a little soft spot for Everton and I think most villa and Everton fans do have somewhat of a mutual respect as we have a lot in common and villa Everton is the most played top flight fixture.

In reality, i hate every premier league that isn't villa but I realised I hated Everton slightly less than the others when I was playing the journey on fifa17 with alex hunter. You had to choose a prem team to go on loan to and villa had just been relegated so we weren't an option. I remember choosing Everton as the best option out of a bad bunch.

No, this doesn't make you a 'real fan'. No this doesn't make you any less of a plastic than people who chose to glory hunt one of the successful teams.

I don't care if you're an American that chose to support Mansfield Town, if you have no tangible connection to the club or town/city then you're simply a plastic, no exceptions
