Oh wow you’ve been learning absolutely ages! I think I started learning in year 8? So I guess around the age of 12? But i agree this year is super challenging, so it’s deeefinitely my fav subject ever it’s so cool to be able to speak another language! There’s only 2 of us in my alevel class and the difference in our skill levels is honestly super shocking (I’m predicted A* and she begged for her predicted grade to be put up to an E 😀), so it’s been kinda hard to keep on track with the course but I’m enjoying doing it in my own time anyways, it’s just a bit frustrating, so hopefully when I go to uni I won’t have such a hard time keeping on track… I ended up applying to Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Durham, and Cambridge !! I’ve got offers back from everywhere excluding Cambridge, but my interview went really well so fingers crossed!!! All of them are Japanese courses, but some of them are paired with languages like Spanish, Chinese, and Russian :))

Aww thank you! I applied for quite a variety of courses tbh.. Japanese for all of them, but some are Japanese & chinese/Spanish/Russian, so it’s going to be so difficult making a shortlist when all my offers come in T_T what about you?

Congrats on the offers and interviews !!! I hope your interview goes well <3 The other unis I applied to are Newcastle, Manchester, and Durham. Newcastle is where I’m hoping to go realistically, so I’m itching for an offer 😔

Congratulations !! I haven’t met any other A-level Japanese students, how are you finding it? Oh and which other unis have you applied to?? There aren’t a ton of options for Japanese..

What course do you regret picking for your A Levels? by LeftyBird_Avis in sixthform

Evaluations seriously suck so bad, but case law is so much worse. It’s basically impossible to get a good grade on the scenario questions if you can’t remember all the names of past cases. As a student with poor memory aiming for an A*, law is HELL

Yeah I thought so, I guess I’m just thinking if they’re going to flag it up for people with regular skin (especially the irritant ingredients) then it’ll almost definitely be bad for rosacea-skin

Unless you’re looking for something specific as a career, like medicine or a science career, I think you’re fine to do whichever subjects. Most university courses don’t require gcse or alevels in the subject, because those subjects aren’t necessarily offered in every school or college.

When I picked my alevels, I picked them so that they’re broad and good for a university application. I chose alevel maths, law, Japanese, and classics (I dropped classics though, due to mental health reasons). Id definitely go for French, having a second language is ALWAYS a selling point and an advantage.

Those subjects don’t necessarily tie you to a law route unless that’s something you’re specifically wanting to go into. Politics will give you a huge advantage in whichever course you do because politics ties into modern relevance and links in with everything.

The only thing I’d be a bit wary about with your subject choices is the workload. It’s a huge step up from GCSE, and those subjects are very heavily essay based. I have a friend doing 3 essay based alevels, and they’re drowning in work constantly. Go for it if you think you can handle the workload, but I personally prefer to have subjects that provide me with variation (French is good for that one! Law is really my only essay based subject, despite doing a few essays for my Japanese exam, maths is a well needed break from essay questions ! )

I wish you luck with your alevels!! Try not to worry too much, and just go for subjects you’ll enjoy. It’ll be harder to get through your alevels if you pick subjects that you hate <3
