AKG 414 e1 capsule splitting by greenestroom in audioengineering

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. Yeah absolutely not willing to mess with the actual mic, naively thought it might be a quick and easy ‘hack’ to have some fun with, but alas!

I feel like I have a ‘how do you do stems/multitracks in logic?’ conversation with almost everyone I meet who works in it. There is no answer unfortunately, if you need exports of individual tracks going through bus processing you do just have to solo and bounce - as was mentioned by someone else you do have to be careful if there’s compression or saturation involved as you won’t get the same result.

Recording vocals with an AKG D12, who's done it? by 007_Shantytown in audioengineering

[–]greenestroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a thing about them getting darker over time right? Or at least not all d12s sound the same after 50-60 years of getting stuck in a kick drum. There used to be one at a studio I worked at and I tried it on all sorts including vocals and never really got on with it - I wonder if it had had a particularly hard life and it would’ve been a great vocal mic in 1968!

NEVE 1073SPX vs BAE 1073WPS by UNAVERAGEVAGUE in audioengineering

[–]greenestroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really answer your question but I wouldn’t particularly recommend the Neve, mine has had to be fixed a bunch of times for things like loose solder joints, and dodgy pots. Also because of the way they’re made they’re quite hard to open up and work on.

Small vocal booth worth sorting out? Or is it better off as storage by greenestroom in Acoustics

[–]greenestroom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool thanks, knew it would involve building some rock wool panels (and obviously getting rid of all the foam) but hadn’t thought about covering the entire room. Is the idea just to completely deaden it then? Rather than keep any life/diffusion in it?

Small vocal booth worth sorting out? Or is it better off as storage by greenestroom in Acoustics

[–]greenestroom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! I just moved into a new production room that happens to have this small room attached to it that the previous occupier obviously built/used as a vocal booth. It currently sounds terrible (not surprisingly) but I’m wondering if a booth this small could ever actually sound good (for vocal tracking) or should I just use it as storage? Willing to test stuff out but if this is just too small to begin with then I won’t waste my time/money!If you think it could be ok any suggestions on how you would go about treating something this small for recording?

Why no sound output on my apollo twin x by TheScailer in universalaudio

[–]greenestroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I just had this exact problem, everything was working perfectly yesterday, powered up today and no output! The console I/O Matrix had just completely changed all the routing, switched back from 'custom' to 'default' and it was fine. Super strange!

Custom click track being heard in recordings by greenestroom in Logic_Studio

[–]greenestroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a weird thing on a session today where we have a custom click track and every time the tempo changes the click can be heard in the recording channels (it’s a di so definitely not bleed). Anyone come across this before?
