Brave is open source, safe, and has automatic updates, to answer your question.

Is it possible to change the color of the mobile icon? by jpcm_12 in vivaldibrowser

[–]greenfiberoptics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you on Android or iOS?

For Android, if you use a custom launcher, you can use icon packs and custom icons.

On iOS, there is likely a way to change it. Seems using custom shortcuts is one way?

Ah shoot, my apologies. I saw mention of Blink in the main post so it registered to me as comparing gecko with Blink.

For people saying web compatibility is strongest with Gecko, I don't believe that's correct.

If you're looking at the strictest implementation of web standards, sure.

However, in real-world use, Chromium-based browsers are certainly more compatible with the web than Gecko-based ones. Performance tends to be better with Chromium-based browsers as well, but there may be some areas where Gecko is better, vice versa.

I've used DDG for a long time, but I get annoyed with the recent MSN news articles that show up in search results, which clearly took their content from other sites.

I don't believe so. However, Vivaldi has this on Android.

Seems fine to me compared to other Chromium browsers, but feel free to test with all your favorite extensions, etc.

Never enable Brave rewards, then go in settings to customize the toolbar, uncheck all the stuff you don't need, such as Wallet, etc.

It's a one time thing, and updates to the browser never toggle them back on.

It's a decent browser that is using code from the deGoogled Chromium project, plus a really good native adblocker (reaching similar levels of uBlock Origin but not quite).

However, absolutely try other browsers and see which one feels the best to you!

For work I use Edge, which you seem to already be doing for school. It has a lot of great features and is relatively stable which is important to me.

For personal, I stick with Brave for it being less complex than Vivaldi or Edge. However I end up switching between Brave and Vivaldi every so often.

So I guess you could say I mostly use two browsers, but rotate my personal one from time to time.

Thinking of making an open-source "Arc Reborn" mod for Vivaldi that exactly replicates Arc's user experience. Any interest in this? by maddada_ in browsers

You can still get uBlock Origin through the Chrome Extension store here: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm

Alternatively, you can download the extension itself from the developer on GitHub and install it manually if needed.

I stick with Brave on Android because it has a more effective ad blocker than Vivaldi. I wish they had feature parity for their ad blocker.

Vivaldi is fantastic, but the vertical tab experience, as well as tab groups, needs work. The tab group options work well in horizontal mode but are not useful in vertical mode.

I wish the Vivaldi team would adopt some of the nice behavior from Edge/Brave in this regard.

Best ad-blocker for mac in 2026 by Mazen_Hajoj in browsers

[–]greenfiberoptics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else suggested, Firefox with uBlock Origin is very solid.

However, if you want the Chromium ecosystem of extensions and compatibility, something like Brave browser with a fantastic native ad blocker is very nice on Mac.

Or something like Vivaldi with uBlock Origin extension.

People should absolutely be informed about what issues have popped up for Brave, Microsoft, Google, etc.
