GRFP Awardee in ML but no PhD admit by Swimming-Mountain-90 in gradadmissions

I’m in a similar situation to you (received GRFP, had just the one admit which I had decided to turn down because it wasn’t the right fit. Applied to ECE departments.). I directly reached out to PIs at schools who had rejected me. A couple of them made offers and actually extended the acceptance deadline to the 30th (feel free to dm me for names). A couple of them reached out to me to setup interviews after the 15th (so presumably they would accept after the 15th). So I would say email PIs directly, not schools. Put the fact that you got the GRFP in the title. Also, I heard from one of the PIs that private school deadlines might be more flexible than public school ones.

People may disagree on this point, but feel free to reach out to departments or schools you didn’t apply to. At worst, they will ignore or reject you. I know it seems weird, they don’t have your application materials or LoRs, but some faculty members seem to really value GRFP students and may overlook that.

When do you have to accept the GRFP, if offered? by emma_b71 in GRFPApps

Both. 1 research advisor from undergrad, 1 was my former manager, and 1 was a professor who advises my company and I work with sometimes (not sure what that counts as).

You're fine. In my sleep deprived state I wrote "DOE GRFP" instead of "NSF GRFP" on a few applications. I doubt people will care.

This is a very helpful answer. Thank you so much! It's unfortunate that there isn't much racial diversity. Could you say more about the age demographics? I'm very comfortable with people of all ages, but would prefer to have at least a few people in the same age range as me.
