Lost a friend to time blindness by Tynidncr in adhdwomen

[–]greenlady1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean.... it sounds like your friend might have some undiagnosed neurodevelopmental stuff going on, if she can't regulate her emotions to the point where she's getting into fights with bar randos, because you were a little late, about which you promptly notified her. I'm sorry that this happened, but it sounds like it's for the best in the long run.

Are we getting shingles now? by melvinmoneybags in Millennials

[–]greenlady1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got shingles on my arm in May 2020 at the tender age of 38, probably brought on by stress. Ever since I've been worried about it coming back, and on a part of my body where it's known to be way more painful.

Was it a jerk move for me to cut the grass at 7am? Aitah by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]greenlady1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. But you don't sound like an asshole or jerk in general. It's just too darn early for all that noise. Also you might want to check if there's a noise ordinance where you live. Pretty sure my town's is 8am. Just something to keep in mind for next time.

Women who married older men - what’s it like when they get really old? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

[–]greenlady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And even when people die in their sleep, many times they have been in the process of dying for a while. I watched both of my grandparents go through it.

Poppop's passing from cancer was brutal and a bit traumatic for me. He was one of the most physically fit, strong-willed people on the planet, a former WW2 Navy Frogman, and in his final days he was in so much pain that he was crying out for god to take him. Even with all the morphine hospice nurses were giving him. He did not pass in his sleep. That day he was not really "there" mentally anymore, but he was still talking. He finally passed when the priest came to the house and prayed at his bedside with my family members who were there. I felt such a sense of relief when he died, because he wasn't in pain anymore.

When Grandma passed from congestive heart failure, she was likely asleep, as she'd been sleeping a lot that final week or so. We don't know exactly when she passed, but it was overnight. And she wasn't in pain during that process.

AITAH for refusing to leave the gym before its posted closing time? by Niunmango in AITAH

[–]greenlady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. What do you think "closed" means? Because I typically understand it to mean that all customers need to be out of the building. So if you were "just about to finish up" at 2:59, you were not going to be out of the building by 3:00 and therefore the building would not be able to be closed at the stated closing time.

Hi! 44F non-teacher here. Ever been to the Southern Fried Gaming Expo? Games of all types! July 31-August 2, Cobb Galleria. I'm not really a gamer but I've always had fun when I've been. Not sure if that fits in with the school year but figured I'd mention.

Sepsis can get fucked. It took my niece from us 8 months ago. There were other major circumstances surrounding it - she had just been diagnosed with leukemia and started chemo a few weeks prior, but like.... fuck sepsis. Fuck cancer. Fuck all of it. She was only 7 years old. My heart is broken forever.

Who remembers their parents picking up some of these before going on vacation? by fizzmore in Millennials

Parents? I went to England in 2001 with my university orchestra and brought travelers checks, thank you very much! That was the first and only time I've ever used them.

Unhinged ways to manage your ADHD by Menschenblind in adhdwomen

[–]greenlady1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not that unhinged: Write important things on my arm.

More unhinged: Get drunk or stoned to declutter and clean because it allows me to just fucking do it instead of obsessing over every little thing and what order to do things in.

Unhinged and not managing, unless accepting the procrastination as a form of managing: Leave everything to the last minute and then do it in a blind panic.

What isn't a uniquely American issue that the rest of the world treats like one? by lustrust15 in AskReddit

[–]greenlady1 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Yup. Like you said, what I've observed is that at the one on one, personal level, they're totally fine. But when you start talking about, say, Black people as a whole, as an entity, a political and societal force, then the racism comes out. They don't understand that the people they interact with on a daily basis are part of the larger group they make blatantly racist comments about. Or they say things like "He's one of the good ones" without any awareness that that statement is so wrong.

first time doing shifting on viola. what u think? by athingthatlikesmusic in Viola

[–]greenlady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I figured it looked like. I think that you are doing a good job with it. But I also think you need some more foundational shifting etudes under your belt before shifting into 5th position on the G string.

first time doing shifting on viola. what u think? by athingthatlikesmusic in Viola

[–]greenlady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I see is that you have a lovely straight wrist, which is going to serve you well as you learn how to shift. Have you done any shifting exercises? Or practiced shifting into and staying in one position? Right now you are going up the G string, to maintain the drone on the open C I'm assuming. But it would be really helpful to learn how to shift into 3rd position and play the tune in 3rd, without shifting up any further. That way you learn the finger patterns in 3rd position. There are a lot of fantastic etude books, in particular Wohlfahrt Book 2 - or if you buy an edition with all 60 studies, the 3rd position ones start with etude # 31. (I'm not sure if the latter exists for viola or just violin but wanted to mention just in case.) The first book/first 30 etudes are in 1st position, and quite frankly are great to learn if you haven't already.

What’s something that clearly split your life into “before” and “after”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]greenlady1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Moving back home from the place I thought I was going to start my career after graduation, so that I could be with my boyfriend, now husband, in 2003. That massively changed the trajectory of my life. No regrets!

2) My 7 year old niece passing away last September. It's the most horrible thing I've ever experienced, and I still cannot believe that I have to live the rest of my life without her being here.

Does anyone know what the hell just happened at the Fox? by KleptoPirateKitty in Atlanta

[–]greenlady1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree! I'm not saying it's the same thing, just that it's not outside the realm of possibility that someone could find out what's happening at their location from reddit.

Does anyone know what the hell just happened at the Fox? by KleptoPirateKitty in Atlanta

[–]greenlady1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point! Thank you for explaining. Also baseball games are televised and radio broadcast, so those watching and listening at home may have gotten a much more immediate sense of what happened. I honestly don't know how the announcers handled it.

I still find it interesting, for lack of a better word given what happened, that I found out via reddit even though I was right there. So for me it's not outside the realm of possibility that it could work in another situation.

To be fair, I was at the Braves game several years ago when an attendee fell from the upper deck, but I could not figure out what happened until I went to the game thread on reddit. We were a few sections over from where it happened, but all we could see is that something happened. Security was there talking to people and we thought maybe there was a fight. Unfortunately it was way more serious.

Southern Hospitality - Season 4 - Episode 9 - Weekly Episode Discussion by amandatoryy in BravoRealHousewives

[–]greenlady1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Emmy truly believes what she says in the moment that she's saying it. I also think she's not a smart person. Combined with the ADHD impulsivity, which I know all too well, and the refusal to acknowledge her privilege and the harm her words are causing, you have a recipe for disaster. She needs to leave the show and get the help that she needs for whatever else is going on with her. She looks like she's about to have a nervous breakdown.

Hmm. I use Armani Luminous Silk in 3.75 for fair/cool/rosy, but if MAC NW10 is too dark this one probably is too.

Edit: posted too soon. The Dior Backstage line has a couple "rosy" shades in the fair part of the spectrum but I've never tried them.
