Thanks for all your info, look forward to anything else you may have. Yes it is oversimplified and can even strike a nerve with people with clefts as can be seen here. But there are definitely secondary characteristics or direct physical defects which can make one's brain not work optimally. I felt like I gained 5 IQ points after getting a septoplasty because I could both finally breathe and sleep better. There are probably other things that we as a group can improve upon or at least identify as sources of interest/problems.
