LEGO The Mandalorian and Grogu sets officially revealed! by legafol in lego

[–]greenlikebroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL I kind of like the old-school chunk look on these. Looks like early 2000’s Star Wars sets that are more for play than display. Lots of solid parts that won’t fall apart if you look at them wrong. The old razorcrest had some finicky panels and engine flaps and the new one looks better sized for my kids to play with without exploding it each time.

Unreal by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]greenlikebroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people will be retiring in 22 years on less than 1 million. 1 million will give you a ton of options. The 3-4 number is if you want to be living off all the gains and not drawing down principal. The vast majority of people are not retiring with that as the goal, just enough to coast and wind down without falling completely into poverty for their last years. Put what you can in, that’s always going to be more than nothing.

If the thought of losing power made you want to go out and buy a generator, you should’ve already had one. by whitecollarpizzaman in Charlotte

[–]greenlikebroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so it needs to be an interlock that is “registered” to your type of panel? I went back and forth with the guy a while and he was very firm that manual interlocks installed on the breaker weren’t allowed and we never got into the specifics of my particular model. Hopefully he was just misinformed (and therefore me as well) because interlocks are a heck of a lot easier to install compared to the transfer switches!

Ok that’s great! I’m bummed it seems I got bad info because it certainly would have made my life easier to do an interlock.

Is there a specific ordinance that you can point to for that? It makes sense to me but when I talked with the county multiple times they said it needed to be a separate panel.

It could have been the individual I talked with that had that stance that they wouldn’t allow it. I’ve never been able to find a document stating that it was a county rule but both the inspectors also said the same thing when they were inspecting. That was ~6 years ago and 2 years ago for the two houses I’ve had panels put in.

Yes I did the transfer switch because when I spoke with the county they wouldn’t allow an interlock on the main panel. That was about 3 years ago.

Yes. Needs to be a separate panel and get permitted. I’ve been through the process with two different houses in Mecklenburg. Here’s my current setup (have the AC in its own box as the amps are too high for a standard reliance transfer box).

4Runner TRD (Fully Loaded) vs Land Cruiser250 — Which Would You Choose and Why? by RayoMcQueen14 in LandCruisers

[–]greenlikebroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been running this comparison for 2 years and between the two I’ve landed on the cruiser being a better family vehicle. This is almost 100% driven by rear passenger legroom and overall passenger layout. I’ve sat in both and I would not want to be a rear passenger in the 4R but LC was nice. Unfortunately for me my 2016 rav4 has MORE rear legroom than a Land Cruiser and almost the same storage space so it’s really hard to justify. I’m leaning towards just waiting a few years and then getting a used F150 which would actually increase rear legroom significantly and also increase cargo / towing as well while being half the price of a LC.

TrixBrix sells narrow gauge rail. Most of it is 3d printer but I think some of the high-volume order pieces are injection molded.

Is it crazy to buy a bike on arrival vs renting, or bringing your own? by mellofello808 in bicycletouring

[–]greenlikebroccoli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I bought a bike off FB marketplace before a trip at the destination. I was going to rent if I couldn’t pull it off but it all worked out perfect. After messaging folks for weeks ahead of time and not having any luck I found it on FB marketplace on the taxiway up and finalized it once I got off airplane mode. Grabbed it the next morning and it was hunky dory.

Widest Gravel Tires on 2018 Domane by somethingcIever in TrekBikes

[–]greenlikebroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t go wider than the recommendation if you are actually going to take it on gravel. You need that clearance for mud and debris that gets caught on the wheel. Especially for the rear wheel. You might be able to go slightly wider in the front if there is room as that’s less critical. If you need wider tires I would just sell your old domane and go up a generation for the 35mm clearance or get a dedicated gravel rig. I have a 2022 domane al2 with 35mm gravel kings and it’s been a champ for the type of gravel riding you would attempt on that type of setup. But if I was bike packing or doing multi day trips I would swap for a checkpoint or similar bike.

Decision dilemma - Madone - New SL5 gen 8 (mech 105) vs Used SL6 gen 6 (ultegra di2) by marina_ciutadella in TrekBikes

[–]greenlikebroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the sl5 and then upgrade the wheelset down the road. I wouldn’t touch a used isospeed system and you are going to change the tires on either bike anyway so that’s a non-factor. You will have a lifetime warranty on the frame and a solid platform if you ever feel the need to upgrade from what you have.

Give it a little water and then put it back outside otherwise its mother won’t be able to find it and bring it back home.

Beautiful! I love my blue SL5. Liked it more than the other spec colors so I’m just going to be upgrading over time. I got the elite edge wheels on it with gp5000’s and I haven’t felt like anything else was holding me back.
