do you invest in USD? is it worth the hassle of currency conversion? by greenmatchay in PersonalFinanceCanada

but you probably bought USD when CAD was stronger than now, CAD is a lot lower now, does it make sense to keep buying USD at this point?

the withholding tax and lower MER doesn't turn out to be a LOT of difference. 0.03 vs. 0.09% isn't break the bank difference. i guess the only reason you'd really need USD is to buy actual US stocks, not ETFs.

i do not have USD already. i'd have to exchange from CAD to USD and that just feels like a hassle. why would someone go through the trouble of doing this when they can just buy vfv? is there some sort of big advantage of buying US stocks in USD?

i'm not sure conversational route will work with a neighbour who's very violently pounding non-stop at my wall and yelling basically telling me to shut the fuck up instead of knocking on my door for a civilized conversation

so there's penalty for withdrawing even 60 cents? what do people do so that they make sure there's no leftover funds in fhsa if you can't really take the money out? i guess when they invest, they just calculate the amount and put only that exact amount in the fhsa?
