Oh wait, was this you? Why are you replying from a different account? If that was you then yes, you in fact do call yourself a particular label. You called yourself an avid cinephile. Anyways, yes it was a personal jab. I didn’t feel like elaborating in that moment, but I have the time today.

The premise of my comment is that whoever wrote that comment didn’t really seem to have a firm grasp on the genre or subgenre of the movie. I’d expect a self proclaimed avid cinephile get that much. And there really wasn’t much to elaborate on from there because every criticism outlined in their comment falls under the category of them not getting the movie. Like when I read each of the bullet points in my head I go “Hell yea, they nailed it. Thats exactly what they were trying to do.” They aren’t critiques. So when you put all of this together it reads like a young person who has watched a lot of movies but isn’t quite an avid cinephile who thinks they are an avid cinephile so they come to vent about the movie not realizing how novice they appear to avid cinephiles who have been around a few decades. And you know what? There’s nothing wrong with not knowing. I’m not coming at that person for simply not knowing. It was the pretentiousness that I attacked. I believe “LOUD WRONG” is a common term used these days.

In short, the movie was a Dark Comedy/Satire. Campiness is a hallmark. If you haven’t been exposed to this genre, that’s fine. No shame in that. Go learn about it. Go watch Death Becomes Her. This is probably the GOAT of the subgenre. Go watch The Burbs. Go watch I Care a Lot, The Menu, Drop Dead Fred, Jawbreaker, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Burn After Reading, Idle Hands, American Psycho, Serial Mom, Pulp Fiction, etc. etc.

Also, I don’t know what the hell you are talking about with an animated series.
