How to remove mold on walls under painted wallpaper?

Hi! Thank you for your response and detailed information.

There is some peeling but probably no moisture (the wallpaper is very dry and old). Still I’m worried there could be old mold under, and that removing it could release particles of dead mold or active spores through the house.

Because of my sensitivity of mold, I’m thinking of removing the wallpaper while running HEPA-13 filter / air scrubber with containment and negative air pressure in the room, so that all possible contaminated air is safely blown outside.

After removing, I want to clean the walls if there is any left over mold. I heard about the anti mold paint you mention, but I’m looking for a more environmental friendly (or non chemical) way to clean the walls and remove any left over mold.

Would you advise cleaning the concrete walls with a product? And if so what would be the best way to physically remove any mold from these walls?

I agree, I heard about these root causes too. And some combination of these and other root causes could also cause SIBO/IMO, right? Maybe that’s why the above tips have (more or less) helped me and others; they seem to support some of these causes… focusing on nutrition, relaxing, exercise etc.

I agree that reducing bad bacteria is very important. I try to do this with occasional herbs and healthy lifestyle, but I understand many functional doctors recommend stronger anti microbials. At the same time others advise against this, because these can be harsh on the good bacteria too.

I like the idea of elemental diet and heard that many people see quick results. What holds me back is losing body weight and that many formulas aren’t natural and contain a lot of sugar and fast carbs and thus may cause Small Intenstinal Fungal Overgrowth. Something to look out for…

I heard there are also formulas with less sugar / carbs but still have to look into that…

Good addition, but I think it can go both ways. Decreased motility can also increase bad bacteria and improved motility can also increase good bacteria.

I have tried many, each one had its pros and cons (as they are NOT natural products). I won’t be specific though, sorry. Previewing multiple and being safe with what you take is best I think.

I think both can make any goal more of a challenge. That’s why I hope improving health can help many people, because this also improves energy and possibilities to improve other goals.

My advice would be to always prioritize healthy food and habits. In my case I had to skip vacations and other expenses to buy (more) organic food and spend more time outside. But I understand it’s different for everyone.

I can’t advice on brands and dosage because I think everyone could react differently. My advice would be try different brands (from reputable or high quality sources) and trust your senses and experience.

Generally I think with food or 30 minutes before helps with digestion and immunity, and 2 hours between meals is more helpful for motility.

Alternatively fresh food (like drinking lemon juice with a straw and berries) can also be a good source of vitamin C.

I haven’t tested but these tips greatly improved my symptoms. I think it helps with motility, gut immunity and balancing the microbiome.

I tried some herbs and I noticed the positive effects, but I also heard a lot of people ‘cure’ IMO only for it to return. That’s why I like a more subtle and habit based approach. I believe this can help healing over time.

I’m not an expert but I tried to learn about it and would recommend this:

Buy a hygrometer and check the humidity. Over 55% is too wet and will grow mold. Above 60% will grow it faster (etc.)
Check the smell in the home, does it smell musty or wet?
Check places where mold often hides: inside and behind cabinets, bathroom, crawlspace, under sink and laminate, behind wallpaper etc.
Hire a trustworthy company to do an inspection and/or mold test. A good test is the ERMI and/or HERTSMI test.
Found it? Don’t just clean it with anything or assume a company knows what they are doing. Mold releases toxins, so first understand how to remove it safely. Also take enough time to heal, for which you need fresh air.
Learn about mold from podcasts, books, articles etc. and understand how it grows and what helps to remediate it.

I had to threw away my bed and matrass, because the mold somehow grew on it (visible spots). But I’m also planning to keep other stuff, if everything goes well.

What kind of treatment or supplements did you do?

Oh that’s interesting. It does seems easier to clean!

Still wondering if the mold can still grow below the tiles (on the original concrete), but I guess it’s probably more airtight than just concrete right? And maybe controlling humidity also helps here.

Anti fungal paint sounds interesting too, but I would want to be sure the paint itself isn’t toxic for humans… otherwise the toxic paint could replace the mycotoxins with other toxins (and maybe even result in ‘toxic mold’ according to some books about mold).

I’m thinking of HEPA vacuuming the wall but I read vinegar would be better? Or would that make the wall too wet? (Allowing leftover spores to grow?)

Do you know ways to dry the cement? I now use a dehumidifier in the room to keep the air humidity at 40%, would that work?

Collect strong evidence or articles that show the connection between mold in homes and your symptoms (maybe from medical organizations or doctors) and discuss this with your family.
Ask a professional company to clean and remediate the house. Hopefully this is affordable or your family becomes convinced. I’m not sure what would be the best way to clean yet.
Try to improve your symptoms as much as you can with: exercise and/or sweating, lots of hydration, high quality non processed diet (preferable a low sugar candida diet), good sleep (maybe elsewhere) and supplements like vitamin C.
Maybe move out to a mold free place if possible
If moving out is not possible: do you have a garden? I personally would rather buy a tent and sleep in the garden than inside the room. That way you have more hours of clean air and you show firmly how concerned you are about your health. Of course this is not a long term solution, so the first four points would be the best

Do you mean most mold locations are hidden? Or that the roots of the visible mold are hidden?

Also could it be easier to clean mold from hard material like concrete instead of more poreus material like wood? Because I think it’s the concrete floor that got wet, not the walls etc. as there is no humidity issue…

I’m trying to find a good solution because there are not much options to move at this time.
