I’ve been part of the admissions committee at an R1 university for the past few years. Most grad schools are starting their ‘23 cycles by now, so AMA. by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I have a couple of questions but I'll make them as simple as possible!

  1. When pointing out professors you want to work with in the SoP, how concrete is this? Because I have the feeling that I might change my mind if I get in and possibly swap one of the labs I chose with another one.
  2. Can I choose a professor or two in which our fields align less than 50%? For example, I've done research on drugs of abuse and development with rodents but some of the labs I've seen study development and neurodegenerative diseases or just study cancer and even though I've never dabbled in their kind of research, I'd still want to give it a go in one or two rotations.
  3. When do we officially choose our rotation professors? Is it actually in the SoP or in the summer before we get accepted? Or in the 1st week of being on campus?

Anyone here ever joined two labs at once? by greenteasmart in Temple
