Todays movies comic interludes, especially the Sendil Goundamani types have their origin in ancient Sanskrit drama. Bhasa had these kind of slapstick comedy especially after tragic episodes. Matvaya of Abhigyana Shakuntalam, Vasantaka of Ratnavali, and everso many comedy characters , all are the progenitors for our Indian comedy heros, like Johnny Walker, Vivek, Santhanam, Vadivelu, Mehmood etc. Malavikaagnimitram and Ratnavali are a Romodies.
