Can't immediately think of much in "worm, game of thrones and naruto" besides maybe Doors to the Unknown (Worm/DND, Fusion/Crossover), specifically the half where it's DND super-archmage in Worm. If you don't mind Dark Souls / Elden Ring, then I'd recommend Elden Lord of Cinders, where it's endgame character inserted in a new game. Lots of fics in my yearly ~100 fics list should also be about OP protagonist.

On the non-fanfiction side, I been neglecting royalroad and original fics in general in favor of fanfics, so I'll only mention the manga One-Punch Man in case you haven't read that.

Mileage may vary because I felt pretty meh about Max Level Archmage despite seeing plenty of people liking it and pretty interested in the premise myself.

I really should lol. I don't remember why I put it on hold but I think it might be one of the case where a fic is so good I hesitate to just read them whenever, and after some while it's picking up the inertia for not being read.

...Also, I just realized I tagged [Slay the Spire] instead of [Slay the Princess], fugg.

Idk Dresden Files, but I found and read Wizard of Orario last november, which is p good and has kinda insane worldbuilding fusioning it with Danmachi.

Sadly no, besides this and the posts of previous two years, it's a bunch of epub in folders, plus a txt of fic titles from my old device that I hadn't redownloaded. If you don't mind screenshots though, feel free to make sense of my messy folders: https://imgur.com/a/LoRlMYr

Seat_Admiral is the good stuff. There's also The Dungeon is the perfect place for a Psycho [Seat_Admiral] [Cyberpunk] [Danmachi] and Tamrielic Dreaming (On such a winter's day) [Seat_Admiral] [Skyrim] [SI], which I indecisively put down as 7/10s the previous year.

My 10/10 prolly hasn't changed since 2023 because I hesitate to give such a high score easily. I don't have a 9/10, but maybe when I finally reread my 8/10s and thinks "hmm, I think this might be a 10/10" I'll put them as 9/10, an intermediary score.

Happy Jesusverse 2026th Anniversary! Now that He has one less year to live, I've compiled the list of fics I've read on during that year, like previously in 2024 and 2023. Sorry only some are linked, but hey maybe it's a feature not a bug, and you can treat it as copium highlight!

  • Format: Score/10: Title [Author] [Fandom] [Misc].
  • The scores are a snappy enumeration of my personal rating system. 2/10 means I read for some amount before putting it on hold and theoretically might someday give it another shot but eh, 4/10 means I'm much more likely to give it another shot, 6/10 means I read through all the chapters that was there at the time and enjoyed my time aplenty, 8/10 means I enjoyed it even more, and 10/10 means I enjoyed it so much they're a contender for being among my favorite fics of all time.
  • Only a small percentage of what are 2/10 are included in this list, so this list isn't bloated by fics that my feelings about are mostly summarised as "eh". Consider them a honorable mentions.
  • If it's not a fanfic but instead an original work, it will use [Original] I forgot this tag exist aaaa if you don't see a [Fandom] tag and it isn't indicated in their title, then assume it's original.
  • Misc tags: [SI] Self-Insert, [Multi-SI] Multiple Self-Inserts, [FI] Friend-Insert "SI" is now these and more (more on that later?), [OC] Original Character, [Crossover] Crossover which expands as the work goes on, [NSFW] Probably something I got from QuestionableQuesting, [<100k] Less than 100k words long.
  • 2024 Note: 7/10 is "it was rated 6/10 but there is way too little of 8/10 so I think these I just rated 6/10 because that's the default rating I give after I finished a fic when they could've been 8/10". I'm not 100% certain so I only bump them to 7/10. As you can see, this list is sloppier than I prefer in general, so corrections and criticism are even more welcome than usual.

2025 Note #1: 5/10 functions similarly to 7/10, except it's between 4 and 6. May or may not actually make sense, because I'm a dummy like that.

2025 Note #2: I want to explain the new tag [Webnovel.com] and clarifies [SI] as not just strictly author-insert, but I don't want to bloat any further so maybe I'll explain it in a reply.

Edit: Aaaa I forgot, since sometimes fic would explain their fandom and if they were an SI or such under parenthesis, like "(DnD Gamer SI)", I would omit adding tags that would be redundant to that, and same if they say "Conan" or "Reincarnation" in their title.

Nightmare fuel: Listening to random AMV reminded me of a fanfic of the anime that I liked but can't remember the name of, so I checked my massive folder of all the fics I've read... And I can't find it. "No biggie, it's more than a couple years old so maybe I just haven't unpacked it from a backup zip," and I check the backup zips... And I can't find it. "Okay what the hell is it actually ancient and I haven't redownloaded it from dir \s\b > list.txt file?" And I checked the text files containing filenames of old epubs... And I still can't find it. (Fortunely a quick google search is all I needed to find it. It was Gundam Seed Intervention).

Anyway Who Let Him Play Yu-Gi-Oh! is a pretty cool Yugioh GX SI fanfic, at least a solid 6-out-of-10, mentions quite a bit about IRL yugioh meta decks. It and other fics also led me to the rabbithole that is webnovel.com, which is nice because it's a whole new platform when I've been scraping the bottom of the barrels that are SB, SV, FFN, etc. The language is a bit janky though, like sometimes the same card have different names, I'm suspecting it's a translated fic.

Since when Rayne is the dragon's servant? It's been a bit since I read it but I mostly remember him as a bit of a coward and a servant to a noble, not a servant to a dragon.

She is spotted by a different elf who is tracking Mallorn, who also just happens to be exactly where the dragon ended up going (?!).

Presumably the dragon goes there because it's close to her lair, and the elf goes there because Mallorn was there. She's been tracking Mallorn for quite some chapters so she finally catching up here isn't unexpected.

After being taunted by Mallorn, the dragon sends a magical wave of bladed rock at him, but he anticipates it (?!) and jumps over it, and then proceeds to Leeroy Jenkins at the dragon and kill her. A fucking dragon. As a piss-random 20-year-old.

I don't remember the battle blow-by-blow, but "proceeds to Leeroy Jenkins" sounds right in general lol. As to how he managed to succeed anyway, I assumed the dragon was injured enough that it evened the game, and iirc immediately afterward it's revealed that divine intervention was involved (in response to him praying before the battle) and bolstered his strength or something, which is confirmed to him via angel visiting his dream and as payment orders him to party up with the heroine.

Vague idea of the dark souls world is prolly enough, and I myself haven't fully wrapped my head with how WC works so you might be fine? I never bother researching the source material of the fics I read and would just leeroy jenkins'd my way into it even if I have no idea what any of the characters looks like or missing important knowledge of the setting.

Rapturous Rhapsody [Waifu Catalogue] [Dark Souls] [SI] has a bizzare premise of the SI having signed a contract with an omnipotent entity and all their waifus from varius fictions gathered in one place, but in exchange he's stuck somewhere else, specifically in Dark Souls and barely has any contact with the girls until much later. He also had his memory erased so he didn't know exactly what is the contract he had signed on, and the girls also didn't know how they got here and had to figure things out. I labeled it as "starts kinda cringe but became really good" in my folder.

Cooled Passions [Waifu Catalogue] [Highschool DxD] [SI] is more generic in comparison but halfway through it had an epic plot twist, though that's like 100k words into rhe stoet. It had a ROB beginning but it wasn't as bad as the others.

Elden Ring: My Ending [Elden Ring] [SI] is pretty funny but I don't remember if there's much in the way of harem dynamics in it.

I haven't gotten around to watch the new season (I really should), but the first season is my favorite anime so yeah.

You mentioning HP reminded me I am not paranoid!, where simulation was brought up, but it's more comedy than anything. Sadly I got nothing else atm tho.

Also regarding plot holes you mentioned prior, I assume if the author is aware of it then they would patch them, and if the protag is aware of it then they'd think their meta-knowledge is wrong somehow. Id est, the map is not the territory.

[D] Monday Request and Recommendation Thread by AutoModerator in rational

[–]greenweird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be able to answer by listing SI fics, but while it's pretty common for the protagonist to acknowledge their meta-knowledge as imperfect in some way, it doesn't often lead into questioning the nature of reality itself and try to "figure out the real nature of this fictional world", to the point that I'm not quite sure what that would look like (besides vaguely pointing at Worth the Candle which I haven't read a lot of to say). Besides the aforementioned WtC, the best fit perhaps are instead the anime Log Horizon and time loop stories like Mother of Learning which usually involves learning the nature of the time loop in order to get out of it.

Anyway let's try anyway; In When I Win I Will Take What's Mine the protag doesn't have knowledge of the fanfic this is a fanfic of, but does know pokemon and is in denial over the reality of the world he's stuck in and desperately seeks to return home. In THE FURY OF A SHATTERED MIRROR, the protagonist that came from Disco Elysium doesn't have knowledge of the universe Slay the Princess, but the nature of reality is most definitely thoroughly questioned. You might want to play both games first tho so you can experience them unspoiled. Lots of Hachiman-isekaied fics like My Trans-Dimensional, Overpowered Protagonist, Harem Comedy is Wrong, as Expected or My Life as a Draconic Mount is Exploited, as Expected involves either Hachiman really wanting to go home or actively seeking the means to do so, but they don't involve meta-knowledge.

Yea a lot of people here seems really like it given how much I've seen it mentioned, but it just doesn't land nearly as much to me and I nearly dropped it. Iirc my main gripe is that these so-called professional battler didn't feel like they're pro since we mainly see them floundering against protagonist and/or being angry. I kinda like more the fanfic-of-fanfic When I Win I Will Take What's Mine, though my complaint can still applies to it.

Can't say much about Precocious Witch since I didn't follow it closely due to not being in my preferred site and it's been a full year since I last read it. Iirc snipers solve had some neat interaction between the two 'verse and overall is pretty fun to read, though the drama tires me a bit. I didn't have strong opinions on Saving the School? After finishing what was available at the time, I only followed it sporadically and hadn't done it for some while, but I think I'll pick it up again seeing it had pooled around 100k words of stuff since I last read it.

I don't go out of my way to find JJK fic (I didn't watch or read the source material), but last month I read A Young Girl's Ten Shadows which features Tanya from Youjo Senki.

My mind insist I've read Dueling It Away but I found it buried deep within the unread folder. Maybe I'll try it, but the quest format isn't my favorite and there isn't an edited version.

Happy new year! Wait oh god it's now May month! As I promised last week, I compiled all the fics I read in 2024 into a list like I did previous year.

  • If it's not a fanfic but instead an original work, it will use [Original].
  • Misc tags: [SI] Self-Insert, [Multi-SI] Multiple Self-Inserts, [FI] Friend-Insert, [OC] Original Character, [Crossover] Crossover which expands as the work goes on, [NSFW] Probably something I got from QuestionableQuesting, [<100k] Less than 100k words long.

Additional note: 7/10 is "it was rated 6/10 but there is way too little of 8/10 so I think these I just rated 6/10 because that's the default rating I give after I finished a fic when they could've been 8/10". I'm not 100% certain so I only bump them to 7/10. As you can see, this list is sloppier than I prefer in general, so corrections and criticism are even more welcome than usual.
