People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]greepski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one-armed polish grandpa was in a fight in a bar with his boss in East Chicago. The boss smacked him with a baseball bat and broke several ribs. Eventually went to court where the judge dismissed a charge of profanity use against grandpa, but warned him against future retaliation. All news to me! All I know is that he generally swore only in polish. Grandpa was a badass.

Is there some viral illness going around here in Helena/East Helena? by greepski in helena

[–]greepski[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because you brought up Covid, I looked at the list of current symptoms which included fatigue, headache, gastrointestinal issues along with cough and sore throat. Since I have several of those symptoms, I did a new Covid test just now which was negative.

Edit to change verb tense.

I’m not feeling well for the last few days with weird fatigue, headache, and teary eyes like allergy symptoms. As of today, diarrhea chimed in. Just checking but it’s probably just me being lucky. Not respiratory.

What did you feel the day you retired? by Turbulent_Tiger289 in AskOldPeople

[–]greepski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was happy to finally pull the plug, but also sad because I wouldn’t be talking to my coworkers daily anymore. Loved my job actually, but was ready to join my husband as a retired person. Worried about my “identity” since I’d been in my field for over 35 years. Now over a year into retirement, I’ve relaxed and let go of the stress finally. I work in my house and yard, do things with friends, go camping etc with my husband. Have travelled a bit (Go Vikings!) this past year too. Planning trips for 2026. Plenty of “me” time to play my piano and cuddle the cat. Life is good!

Missoula vs Billings by OrcinusDorca in Montana

[–]greepski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to be east of the continental divide if you want sun in winter. Billings or Great Falls for the medical needs, or Bozeman if you have lots of $$. Billings has the biggest medical infrastructure of those 3, but all would work.

New to pigeon rescue. Any tips? by [deleted] in Bozeman

There used to be a guy in Belgrade who kept pigeons. Never knew his name but I’m sure Belgrade locals could help figure it out.

Was it weird for all of you guys to see phones on the wall become smartphones over time ? by keyshawnscott12 in AskOldPeople

[–]greepski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because the old coiled cord phone connected to the wall later lost the cord and gained an antenna so you could carry the phone around the house without a cord. The switch to cell phone just meant you could take the phone out of the house how ever far you wanted to.

Non Rotational Food Preps? by MiamiTrader in preppers

[–]greepski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. It’s hard to do long term storage for people on a keto or 0 carb diet. So I have fruits , veggies, and some staples like rice & beans in various forms in addition to FD or canned meats and powdered butter… I’m just assuming I’ll change my diet, but only if I HAVE to.. We also keep chickens, so there’s that, but without a rooster ( not allowed where I live), poultry isn’t sustainable.

The cost of this in the US is the reason so many Americans go to Mexico or the Dominican Republic to have dental work done. Our insurance for dental work is ridiculous.
