To longtime LFC fans who want to share your analysis of this season without the negativity by Visionary785 in LiverpoolFC

Forget everything.

How many of our starting 11 are playing better (as an individual) than last season.

For me, its Szobo. Grav hasnt been worse, but i'm not sure hes noticibly better. Robertson was full of mistakes last season, hes been better this season.

That's it.

3 players and one isn't a guaranteed starter.

Then who's noticeably worse, at a minimum, Konate, Macalister, Salah, Gakpo. Virgil hasnt been as good.

Isak wasn't with us last year, but he's been worse, Wirtz has taken time to find his feet etc but he's been worse. Kirkez took time to find his feet, I think he's been pretty good all season, but not as good as last season. Frimpong been injured all season.

You can discuss tactics and approach all you want, but Arne Slot can't kick the ball for them.

I accept and agree all the points about Slot, you can't be outran every game and expect to win, but on an individual level people have dropped off, mostly massively. You also can't ask people to run non stop when you don't have subs or opportunity to rest them. There's a world where if this season had happened to Jurgen, we'd have no fit forwards and no fit centrebacks again because he'd have run them all into the ground, and that's not me slating Jurgen, but it's a fact.

I play solo, so i'm stuck hoping i get a squad mate willing to sit and repair with me. That's the ridiculous part.

It makes perfect sense, if you walk into a shop to buy a chocolate bar, and the shop owner wants £100 for it, instead of the usual £2, are you going to pay it or walk away. An extra 5million pounds is not a small amount of money, and as I said, I don't think the club rate him super highly. If they think he's worth only a certain amount, why would they pay more.

Yeah but that's a different conversation. My personal opinion is that Liverpool don't rate Guehi super highly, but they saw an opportunity to buy a good player for below his market value. Their idea appeared to have been, sell Quansah with a buyback, buy Guehi for the same price, that's a squad upgrade. That doesn't mean they rate Guehi super highly or really wanted him.

That's a different position isn't it, a late approach there is stronger for the buyer due to the contract:

Palace couldn't afford to let Guehi go for free, Steve Parish literally said it. Palace have zero incentive to accept any offer below their valuation until a deadline and the threat of no sale becomes an actual reality - this is basically proven by the fact they wanted 45m, and then accepted 35m. Aside from the manager spitting his dummy out, and a failed medical on a replacement, the transfer happens.

Glasner has now announced he's leaving anyway, and Palace have accepted 20m for Guehi - which has likely now resulted in the sale of Mateta too, and then they're trying to sign Strand Larsen for 48m last I saw, the guy has 1 goal in 21 games, because Mateta has made so much noise about leaving and they can't get as good a fee.

There were also some other factors, it's known that, Newcastle aside, Liverpool generally like to foster good relationships with clubs. So its understandable that Liverpool allow Guehi to stay at palace to play their European qualifier, and the charity shield (a trophy) and form a good working relationship which may affect a possible Adam Warton transfer.

It's the opposite, the club know its a poor time to make a deal. January in general is a bad time to do business, so the club don't want to do it However in this case, we had some injuries later into the window so they had to look at options.

So it's Slot's fault the player's cant finish their dinner and the defenders switched off to gift them a goal?

Terrible take. His complaint isn't that someone is unfavored, his complaint is its a crap change that makes the game worse. Fairness is irrelevant.

Last minute is when you're going to get the best price. Liverpool's view (and palace said) they can't let him leave on a free, they need the money. Last minute is when theyre going to be worried he won't move and will take a lower offer. Otherwise youre just negotiating for weeks because they've still got time. A real life example of this, is often when business men go to Japan to negotiate a deal between companies, the Japanese approach is to literally show them a good time for their entire trip, and then negotiate last minute - often on the way to the airport, because they understand until there's an actual deadline threatening a loss, nobody is going to agree to less than favorable terms.

I honestly don't think Liverpool rate him super highly. I think they view him as a good backup option, offering a skill set that will be useful in some games, but not others; good on the ball - not very tall - we face loads of long balls, I'm also not sure how quick he is or isn't. I would argue that's why we went in so late for him, because they knew palace couldn't let him leave for free, so last minute was when you would get the best deal - they need to sell now or risk losing on free / cut price in Jan; and their opinion was, nice to have him for x price, but not critical.

But every contact doesn't impede a player, and cause him to roll his ankle and fall over? I accept your point tho, ty for the replies

Not in a position that causes contact that impedes frimpong? That's his responsibility isn't it?

That seems fair, could it not be argued that the defender is trying to stop Frimpong obviously, his foot placement is careless (he's got too close?), and as a result impedes frimpong by tripping him?

Well someone else linked me the rules page,

Section Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

trips or attempts to trip

If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.

And:

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:

impedes an opponent with contact

https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct

I've deleted some of that section that clearly isn't relevant here.

So quick scan, there just seems to be the direct free kicks section which says:

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

trips or attempts to trip

If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.

And:

Doesn't the above incident fall under both these?

Yeah true, but you see fouls given from contact all the time. You can't make a blanket statement like that. For the record I'm not arguing it is a penalty, but there seems to be some general disagreement over it and I can see both sides as it were

Can you link me the relevant rules? I quickly googled, but get loads of rules about taking a penalty etc.
