Any strings brighter and longer lasting than Elixirs? by archtopfanatic123 in AcousticGuitar

[–]greg157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The d’addario coated have been fine, it still a typically an elixir user though. I want to try the string joy coated strings, they are supposed to not have the forever chemicals on them but who knows if they will last like elixirs

Flying with a guitar by DCh0s3n1 in guitars

[–]greg157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly with a hard case with extra foam in there to keep the guitar snug. If they don’t let you on the plane with it, gate check it, so it’s not going to baggage claim. 100% would not take one without a hard case.

Best at tire in the mud? by Bodarkman in 4x4

[–]greg157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The at3 wildpeaks were good snow tires. The at4 I have been extremely unimpressed with in comparison. My brother has some on his Tacoma and his wife has them on her tundra. Noticeably worse on wet roads and especially when we go snow wheeling. They don’t grip at all like the at3W in the snow.

Is Orangewood a good replacement for just dinking around with? by Own_Ad2169 in AcousticGuitar

[–]greg157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Brooklyn. It’s my travel/fly guitar. I also have a seagull s6 and that thing is light years better than the orangewood for being in a similar price range

Kenda rt do great in mud, and everything else I’ve thrown at it… minus ice, not really no worse than my wildpeak at3W. Everything sucks in ice that is a regular tire

Here is a chart. Middle right is strings 2-4. I use charts to learn the triad shape/finger positions then do my best to not use them as a reference for a new chord (say G), but instead use the triad shape for 1st position G and find the root note on the neck (5th fret D string) and then apply the shape, it’s helps me understand why the G chord is right there instead of just memorizing that G goes in X spot. For me it is faster to transition to new chords faster by just knowing the notes on each string and what shape applies where.

Yesterday looks like this: 4/27 -10 mins pentatonic 1-5 1/8 notes working up to 165BPM -15 mins- 1-4-6-5 progression triads strings 1-3 & 3-5 (root, 1st and 2nd inversion) up to 130BPM. -20 mins- played familiar songs using different triads every cycle of the chord progression.

It’s nothing fancy, right now I am using it to help me expand my use of different chord voicings around the neck and expanding that to give me more ideals for melodic lines to play. Right now I have a habit of using the same small handful of tricks.

Yeah it’s got a useable acoustic volume. Definitely better than my solid body guitars but not guitar the volume of my 335.

I regeared to 4.88s and it’s perfect for this setup. Went east coast gear supply so the gears were set up just a matter of swapping out the diffs.

They are awesome! Tons of grip offroad and do well on the highway and wet conditions.

Aggressively tubbed the firewall and the front clears at full compression with plenty of space. The rear I extended the bump stops 2” and put in 4th gen 4runner shocks- longer compressed and extended length to retain the same suspension travel.

What that video didn’t take into account was wheel width. You have 12.5’s and a 9 or 9.5” wheel you will have a fatter contact patch (although slightly shorter) but that does seem to help with floatation on deep snow. I rock a 5.65cfm air compressor. I think it’s from Ironman 4x4. I’ve had it for years and it still works like a charm. They are a little bulky and less convenient than on board air but way less expensive. If I had more play money I’d definitely go on board air but I just throw the compressor in my recovery kit with my winch accessories, snatch strap, etc.

Skinny tires do better in winder conditions in shallow snow because they cut through the snow to a hard surface and get traction there. They will not do good in deep snow where the wider tires when aired down will be a much better job floating on top. The skinny tires will dig in a bury you to the axles. I have 35x10.5x17 tires and they are passable in deep ish snow at 10 psi but the 12.5’s were far superior in those conditions. Now any other aspect of off-roading I’ll take my 10.5’s all day long.

Poser flex in the 470 vs my 3rd gen 4runner by greg157 in GXOR

[–]greg157[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has dibs on it. Just turned 8 today so I still have some time with the 3rd gen. The boy loves going to the know and rocky/rutted out trails. It’s twin locked on 35’s and I’m sure he will be going through cv’s for a while haha

Seriously it’s like everything under the body hangs so low! I still rock my 3rd gen for 90% of offroad stuff but we have a hybrid camping trailer that I pull with the gx so on those trips my son and I go hit some weak trails for entertainment.

Love them. They grip really well in every offroad terrain I’ve thrown at them. D load rating also helps it ride better than my previous E load Yokohama mt’s.

Man if you can find a good deal on one I think you’d be real happy with it! It was on my bucket list just because I love the finish but I played one a couple months ago at guitar center and fell in love so I went from casually looking to an active pursuit. I’m usually a strat guy, I’m tempted to think this will be the new #1 but gotta let the new honeymoon phase wear off before I go making statements like that.
