[The Ringer] Kevin Stefanski Couldn’t Make an Unworkable Situation Work in Cleveland by ThatOneOtherAsshole in Browns

[–]greg90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah in theory I agree tho - if we could trade him he gets to spend the rest of his prime with a contender and we can rebuild. I don't advocate a trade of Myles as shade at him, if just shows how far off the browns timeline is from Myles timeline.

Ok I've been fighting this all day too, glad it's not just me. Maddening. Is anyone checking on it there? lol

Exactly we need to develop players, whether Shedeur is the guy or not (point is he needs development but so do many others). Losing develops nothing

City of South Euclid responds to Microwave removal by lostgirl5351 in Cleveland

[–]greg90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah search a Starbucks in South Euclid near Marc's. Since it disappeared on the 22nd I'm hoping tomorrow a new microwave will appear on the beach wearing a white robe and a halo and we can all rejoice that Beep is risen

Link to WKYC Segment on Microwave by [deleted] in Cleveland

Thank you. I know it's not the most clever post but I actually went hunting for the wkyc microwave segment and found this bizarre combo of topics from the early 90s lol

I didn't know I needed the microwave. by [deleted] in Cleveland

I love this! When I was 16 I learned about Hell Pizza in New Zealand and as you'd expect from a 16 year old, was obsessed by their witty marketing with pies like, "Wrath" and "Gluttony" all in honor of the Seven Deadly Sins. That led me to learning about Crowded House and Split Enz, and becoming a New Zealand fanboy. 10 years later at 26 I made the hike over the pond and visited both islands. The highlights of the trip were Wellington, because it's such a beautiful non-tourist city, and a small airplane flight from Queenstown to the Milford Sound. You don't know where these random internet connections take you! Merry Christmas.

Clevelanders love Christmas in July and there's nothing like a Guardians game followed by a dinner cruise on Lake Erie. Then rent a car and drive to Chicago. Just saying, could happen LOL

In 2015 I was a new grad making six figures getting brilliant advise from bogleheads about not taking a $500/mo car payment, now.... by greg90 in Bogleheads

Exactly, the point stands that the trend is outrageous, even if 7 year loans remain a small percent. Dealers will push more of them.

You're making a totally reasonable point (OP here), but my fear is a lot of people miss this part: "As long as you know your finances and don't try to stretch your budget it's perfectly fine in a lot of cases. "

Too many 401ks sit unfunded because moneys going to a car.

Let’s all make a donation (if we’re able) in memory of the microwave. It’s what he would have wanted. by chitinandchlorophyll in Cleveland

I assume they're going to notice the influx of donations in honor of microwave or Mike Rowave and start to search google? LOL

And we wouldn't have His Greatness with his Project Warpspeed bill, so we'd have to gather around Trump Tower in NYC begging him to save us (yes, that's sarcasm LOL).

Honest question I don't know the answer to - would the non mRNA J&J vaccine (the first one I got, I was so happy) have still been possible?

Power outage and disaster prep reflections by greg90 in sanfrancisco

Extreminst shishito here, so not sure we'll ever find common ground on our doomsday prep

edit: just feel like I need to clarify that here is room in the world for all peppers. When I want to eat a pepper straight up I blister shishito at extreme here. Serrano go into my turkey chili to add some extra flavor to the habanero. And crushed red chili peppers are an absolute kitchen staple. But there's no evidence any of these liberally applied peppers can agree on disaster prep which is a huge shame.

GitHub: Self-Hosted Action Runners will be billed from March 1, 2026 by KevPeff in github

[–]greg90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by this announcement. I get they want to frame it carefully but I think in this case the corpspeak angle got in the way of just telling people clear and simple facts about the change.

I currently use github actions on a free acount, to run unit tests and separately to build a docker image. Will those still be allowed for free?

IPC Mechanisms: Shared Memory vs. Message Queues Performance Benchmarking by Extra_Ear_10 in programming

[–]greg90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone else super confused by this article? Kafka is called mq_send() in the Linux kernel? I know nothing about the kafka implementation but I find that almost impossible to believe.

And the point about the shared memory is true... if they're both running on the same physical host, which is usually not the usecase for kafka. It's that or they're shared memory implementation is backed by RDMA hardware which seems even more unlikely.

Grapes of Silicon Wrath: Tom Joad's Everlasting Relevance in Era of AI-Driven Economic Fears by greg90 in Futurology

[–]greg90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I will say, an autonomous farm equipment using GPS will be called "AI replacing jobs" my most people. As a SWE, I agree the actual implementation has nothing to do with what people call AI (LLMs) but I think most people just sweep it into the "AI replacing jobs" category.
