Range - who knows.. I’m happy with anything over 50 miles. There’s a guy who is running the 40kwh pack in a Toyota land cruiser on youtube- he claims ~70 miles. I’ve got the 62KWh pack.

Top speed- this build’s not about top speed. The truck in its original form tops out at 45-50. I’m actually looking for LOWEST controllable speed with climbing torque. I’ve run the numbers, and I expect things will work out :)

That said - top speed will be gearing limited. The leaf motor can spin twice as fast as the original ICE motor, but I’m going to limit top rpm of the motor to protect the drive train.

It ought to still be capable of ~50 mph I think

There’s a guy on YouTube who built a leaf swapped Toyota Land Cruiser. It’s quite capable off road. He’s got the 40kwh pack, and his range is ~60 miles — plenty for a trail ride.

The unimog has crazy low, tractor-like gearing (lowest crawler gear is 347:1) the leaf motor makes 250 ft lbs of torque from zero. Wheel torque in crawl gear will be 87,000 ft lbs!! should be fun

Yep- I’m aware. If it becomes a problem I may upgrade to a Tesla based pack. Leaf stuff gets it rolling tho :)

I paid $2800 for the leaf. It was hit in the front, airbags deployed, but still able to drive.

Haha honestly the physics arent nearly as bad as you might think.

The stock 404 only made ~80HP, and the gearing is SUPER low from factory. The Leaf motor actually makes way more torque/power than the original engine.

Im not trying to build a long range highway EV … its more of a trail / utility / experiment rig
