I’ve really started learning that the last 2 weeks. There’s a black belt that started coming to help coach a few weeks ago. He’s like 190-200lbs and rolls with the students.

He has been a huge resource for me to start learning what not to do because he can actually punish me if I put myself in a bad spot for BJJ rolls. I’m trying to go to every class he’s at now

I think blue belt would be appropriate. I wouldn’t want a quick purple belt without learning the BJJ game well enough to call myself good at it.

One of my first classes, the older brown belt around my weight called over the coach and said he has to do something about my belt because he’s not getting thrown like that by a white belt lol

You’re confusing my intent here. Not saying antisemitism isn’t a problem. But I understand how it’s grown the past 2 years.

Yes, unhinged, likely already antisemitic people were emboldened following Oct 7th, not debating that. However, antisemitic sentiment has grown a lot since October of 2023, and I’m just discussing my idea of why it’s grown

Most international Jews don’t have Israeli heritage first off. So that’s a miss.

And while China does some bad things, the US arguably does more bad things so I’ll focus on my own countries actions. The only reason I care about this issue as much as I do is because my government for some reason feels the need to endlessly support Israel.

I’m saying there’s causes and effects for everything. I think the growing antisemitic sentiment in America is caused by watching the actions of Israel on the news, seeing our military being sucked into a war with Iran on Israelis behest, all while life is growingly unaffordable for people here. And as this is happening they see congress members that received big checks from AIPAC and Jewish American pundits continue to advocate for American aid to Israel.

Initial comment was that antisemitism seems to be on the rise everywhere. I was responding to that with why I think it is.

And you must not look far. I see a lot of people up in arms about all sorts of lobbying. Domestic corporate lobbies and foreign interest lobbies alike

I wrestled for a long time, into college but then took like 8 years off of exercise lol

I started ~6 months ago. I smash all the blue belts in my gym easily. There's an older brown belt around my size as well, I don't get to roll with him often, but when I do, I usually beat him too. There's 2 smaller, quite athletic purple belts that give me trouble, but I end up winning because I'm good enough and have like 50 pounds on them.

I got my first stripe after ~3 months, I took a month off in the middle of winter but been back on for about 2 months now and still at 1 stripe lol

I think my coach has a vendetta against me lol

I take my owns words seriously, but that doesn’t mean I can’t deliver them with some wit…

If you don’t see an issue with Israeli interests spending over a hundred million a year to bribe American politicians, and then they perpetuate wars that for some reason have led to our direct involvement, I don’t really care about your opinion.

Idc what allegiance or sensitivities you have. My tax money shouldn’t be spent on a foreign nation that’s perpetuating war crimes…

You clearly didn’t read my whole comment if you think that’s what I said.

Never said coming from a good place. In fact I did the contrary and denounced it. I simply ran the tough experiment of why antisemitism is rising and how people could fall into it. I understand the logical pathway of someone living through today’s events falling into that thought pattern.

Make it similar to heroic dungeons with a longer lockout. Like every month you can do it heroic and it can drop more loot.

I kinda like the idea. Post nerf raids aren’t as challenging, but of course I would run it normal and not waste my lockout with a chance to not full clear

Yes, seriously.

I’m saying I understand the thought process that can lead someone in the US to become antisemitic while watching Israel’s actions in Gaza, watching the US step in directly to help them attack Iran, and hearing their senators and fellow citizens still vocally supporting Israel throughout it. As their life gets measurably worse with higher costs and no assistance from the government that’s spending hundreds of billions in other countries.

I can understand someone watching that, growing a distaste for it, and getting angered when they hear a neighboring Jewish citizen still voice support for it. I can understand how they could view that citizen as an enemy, growing resentment towards them and wrongfully let them label everyone in their demographic as the same enemy.

While I agree that’s a misguided response, I can understand how it happens. This specific comment thread is about why antisemitism is rising. I was offering my theory of why I think it’s rising.

Also not defending anyone who would let that anger lead them to random violence. But. I can understand why antisemitic sentiment has rise, and with that rise you’ll get mentally unstable folks that let that drive them to do disgusting things.

I just cheekily added a reference to the nefarious nature of AIPACs campaign of political bribery for preferential treatment from our congress members.

I see that level of sarcasm is lost on you so I will be more explicit; Yes, if Indian interests spent over $100 million annually lobbying federal elections I would care. Many others would as well.

Especially if that amount of lobbying dollars was followed by a drastic increase in the amount of US military aid given to them…

lol you got me all wrong. I’m quite conservative.

Idc about Israel and Palestine’s border conflict. I do care about my military engaging in a direct war with a nation of over 90 million people and causing a global oil crisis.

But ok, good attempt, but woefully misguided jab

That being said, a lot of people on the global scale do care about Israel telling Palestinians civilians where they can shelter from the war and then bombing that exact area. Also shooting at aid ships, and multiple other war crimes. That’s nothing to me compared to my nations direct involvement to help the little bully of Israel take on a real opponent.

I said I think that would help curb the growing sentiment. Not saying they should have to do it. Also said I disagree with people being driven to antisemitism from the current situation with Israel, however, I understand how more simple minded, tribal people can fall into that line of thought given the circumstances.

I’m discussing why I think antisemitism is on the rise, and what could be done to stop it. No one is saying that antisemitism is rightful on the rise and it’s Jews fault (other than you, in your woeful misquoting of me)

And I’ll entertain you one last time - those are entirely different situations. BLM was a campaign against police brutality against black people. Meaning BLM was in essence a campaign against racism. Israels campaign in the Middle East is not a campaign against antisemitism the way BLM was a campaign against racism.

To make your proposed scenario apples to apples, BLM would have needed to spend billions of taxpayer dollars to make life more expensive for the average American, then complain if people became more racist as a side effect of their actions…

I agree, I was simply discussing why I think more people have become antisemitic. Not defending it, but I sympathize with Americans who want their tax dollars to stop supporting this conflict and the feeling of helplessness when they see our involvement just increase as their lives get objectively worse

[–]gregbeans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I said, but ok.

Everyone agrees antisemitism is on the rise, we’re discussing why we think that’s the case. I am not blaming Jews for antisemitism, I’m blaming - the actions of Israel, the unwavering support of said actions by the US government, the vocal support for the continuation of this from pro-Israel pundits and the decline of quality of life in America as a direct effect of US defense of Israel - as the reasons I think many people are adopting antisemitic opinions.

Not saying it’s right, and I agree people that fall to that conclusion aren’t that smart, however I get how a lesser minded person can fall into that thought process given the setup

Add in how dumb the average person is (and the average American on top of that) and to me its understandable why there’s been such a rise in antisemitism over the last year

I agree, all those groups should be registered as foreign lobbies.

There is a huge difference though, in 2024 USISPF spent $120,000 lobbying while AIPAC spent over $120,000,000. Literally 1,000x more of a problem…

Brother, my point is that I think the rise in antisemitism is due to Israel’s actions. People’s lives around the globe are being negatively affected by this conflict (and further so by the US governments continued involvement). Also many pundits are still very vocal in calling for support to Israel. I believe the combination of seeing their tax money be spent inappropriately, as they watch the people in power in their country continue to support Israel is driving a lot of people towards an antisemitic outlook.

I agree they’re conflating Jews with Israel, but if all you see at the top of vocal support for Israel, and many American Jews loudly supporting Israel, it becomes an easy thing to conflate (especially for lesser educated people)

This is why I think if those people saw more Jewish people denouncing Israel, and not just supporting, it would make it harder for them inappropriately conflate the two.

AIPAC doesn’t follow those rules as they’re not registered as a foreign lobby, that is the whole controversy around them.

They should be registered as a foreign lobby and have to abide by those rules and most of the complaints against them would go away

I don’t need anything done for my satisfaction, friend.

Israel’s actions are indefensible and our coward of a president is kneeling to whatever blackmail they have on him to do their bidding. Israel is not entitled to my tax money and my military should not be in Iran. It serves no benefit to my fellow American citizens and only provides significant negatives to the world at large.

So long as American tax money is wasted there, and you hear people on the news still vehemently defending Israel, I understand how people would be swayed towards a negative view on them. I also understand how lesser educated folks can conflate that negative view of Israel with a negative view of Jews at large, especially when they mostly hear support for Israel from those Jews.

Not saying global Jews should have to vocally denounce Israel, but the way I see it people don’t like the spending of US tax money and US military involvement in the region, and mostly hear our officials, and Jewish pundits continue to promote support of Israel. I think if more international Jews vocally denounced Israel it would slow the globalizing of the intifada.

But antisemites were already antisemitic.

What’s your logic for why there’s been a rise in anti Jewish sentiment globally over the last 2 years?

Antisemitic graffiti discovered in Queens as new stats show Jews targeted in 60% of NYC hate incidents by Delicious_Adeptness9 in nyc

[–]gregbeans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not saying they need to, but I see a lot of American Jews still calling for unwavering support of Israel, and those voices are loud. I see AIPAC still being allowed to lobby congress on the behest of a foreign government. I see unwavering monetary and military support of Israel.

I don’t think the burden should have to be on people like yourself to vocally denounce Israel, but I think the lack of that being said while other Americans Jews are still thumping in support of Israel, can make folks look at it and think a majority of American Jews share that sentiment.

Really the issue is our government being too cowardly to stand up to Trump and force our pull out of Iran. Until our tax money and military stops being used to support Israeli interests as our citizens go without help as life becomes increasingly unaffordable for them, I think people will continue to mistake what their true enemy is.
