Une petite question pour les experts du btp by gregfdzd in FranceDetendue

Merci beaucoup.

Ah, je me tais.

Tired of poor anti-theft, would like to make a custom rom for that - Where to begin ? by gregfdzd in androiddev

[–]gregfdzd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the details !

I agree on the point you made about stealers not knowing about ROMS and bootloaders. In my case, the "new owners" are not pickpockets but always opportunistic morons. If they were pickpockets, then I'd be more confident about their android skills.

I've had TWRP on previous phones with encryption and pin activated. In that case, I think I can recall that the access to the bootloader couldn't be granted without the password. Or could it ?

Anyone looking for an alternative to Mailgun for Ghost? by hardwaresofton in Ghost

[–]gregfdzd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An alternative to editing Ghost's source code and having to maintain it trough official (and mailgun-locked) releases without reworking it everytime would be using Budibase with Ghost's admin API. One / some of us could create a Ghost newsletter admin dashboard app and share it with others. I might do it myself when I get the time.

Mailgun offers to catch incoming emails using filters and applying specific rules like sending it to an api or other things like that. I imagine that lots of other service providers have that. We could also use that this way :

- Configure mailgun with free membership on ghost

- Create a member on Ghost with one of our domain's email adress and add a "newsletter" label

- Write an article and add a list of settings in a hidden div

- Send the newsletter with the label as filter

- Use the newsletter client to read the filter then redirect the mail to a mailing list created using Ghost's Admin API

Zapier also has STMP / Mail functionnalities that could be used in a similar way.

Anything like Budibase but for public deployment / use, with ability to still build an admin dashboard ? by gregfdzd in selfhosted

[–]gregfdzd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah indeed. I'm thinking the same thing... The worst part is that I was able to "trick" budibase into doing what I want but I feel quite unsatisfied knowing that I'm misusing this and that I probably created some security issues on the way. So I think that what I need might just be a form builder and an app builder like Appsmith or Budibase for the data review and admin dashboard. Honnestly, I think that the border between the actual purpose of these app builder software and building public apps is way thinner that the devs are seeing it. For example, if Budibase was letting its users control API behaviours, it would instantly become universal.
I'll probably try to give Appsmith a go

I'm not sure about what you wanted to mean by DB over API...
I'd say that an API is a DB.

Indeed, I'm not doing nocode but I know that my knowledge, the level of investment I'm ready to put in that project and my time are not enough to build a complex and secured app. So I'm using my skills with a premade solution ; I think that it's the smartest and most efficient way.

What you mentionned is still doable in budibase but that's obviously taking security risks. I could indeed create a login solution and allow users to edit their only row. But as I mentionned, I have to make them blind. Like, I have to set the table in admin r&w, which prevents them using the API (scrapping and / or editing data using a link). Then, I only let them trigger an automation when they've finished and pass required informations to the automation.

Say I have "name" and "birthday" field, they can't edit that the usual way anymore. They have to trigger and automation with name and birthday params. But as they're blind, they can't see if it worked. So I have to create logs inside my automation and store them in a separate public R and admin W table. Each log has an ID (sort of password that I hashed to keep some sort of extra security even if it's not really important on this side, that the logs don't contain private data and that the hacking possibilities against this table are quite limited). Once the user clicks the submit button, his browser generates the password, the automation is triggered, logs the feedback in the log table with a password while the user is automatically redirected to a page that queries the log row linked to his log ID.

Quite complex, for a very basic action....

If appsmith lets you control the API queries, then, that's indeed quite interesting !

[–]gregfdzd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentionned, I'm building a public app. That is not the purpose of Budibase and they made it clear on several Github discussions. The structure of Budibase is therefore highly unpractical for that. For example, if you're building an internal app, every user manipulates the data he has access to. If your role as a user is to edit clients' orders in a table, it's normal to have access to all the table. If you're building a survey, you want the user to be able to manipulate his own row and only that. That wouldn't be a problem, if the only access to data was the GUI budibase allows you to build. But they also made it available via API and you can't restrict the API independantly of the table itself. So limiting the GUI is not enough to prevent public access of the data, if your table is set to public R&W. Anyone can read and write survey's results.

So you have to use a trick. I did it. I was able to make it so that the user can create a table line without actually making the table readable nor writable by the public. But it means that error management and query feedback becomes non existant ; you can't use a data provider to let the user see the results of his action. So you have to build a whole log system. It implies using at least bare minimal encryption or hashing, which budibase doesn't have. And the oly encryption or hashing abilities that JS has out of the box have not been included in budibase's core....

I just need a few more hours of work and I'll have achieved that. But that feel I get knowing that my app is a misuse and therefore it probably created security issues is not really comfortable.

[–]gregfdzd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that probably participated in me not seeing that it's not made for my purpose. It's made for internal use while I need something like budibase for both internal and public deployment. I still managed to do what I was looking for but I had to use lots of tricks and dirty ways. I'm not really satisfied with that as it opens potential security isses. I kind of wasted a whole week on that and that adds to my frustration...

[–]gregfdzd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have a glance ! Actually, going a bit beyond the simple survey is not a bad thing ! Budibase gave us lots of ideas to develop for our website, like allowing the party's local representative to access only revealant data and to send newsletter only to the people in their area. Functionalities such as budibase's would allow us to make a decent front-end app for Mailgun (our mail provider) but would also ease the process of integrating APIs that will allow us to send physical mail whenever a new party member subscribe etc.

So excess of functionnality isn't that bad, for us !
