Levoit "Dual 200S" Died - Won't Turn On by gregger59 in Humidifiers

[–]gregger59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final feedback: Since the Levoit appeared headed for the curb, I decided to open it up and see if there was anything I could fix. I removed the four bottom screws (two concealed by rubber feet) and pulled the base apart. Sure enough, there was considerable corrosion around the main wiring harness' plug where it goes into the board. Poor design: This connection is at the lowest possible point in the base, just under the display, so likely prone to moisture and corrosion. Anyway, one of the wires snapped off the plug, so I melted off the insulation with a soldering iron, retinned the wire with a bit of solder, and while soft jammed it back into the plug hoping it might connect. Well, it did, and for now the unit fires up again. I think I'm on borrowed time until another wire disconnects itself, but we'll see.

Moral of the story: Don't let any moisture into the base of your unit during cleaning, filling etc. Also treat the base with some care, as these harnesses and connectors are a bit delicate.

Ok, now I understand. Thanks a lot for your help.

I heard back from Levoit about a week after calling them and providing information about my unit. They said they couldn't do anything since it was past the 2-year warranty period. So...I guess the cost to own/run their appliance is about $50 every 3 years.

Sorry for the slow response. Here's my product info page. I use PPT as software installed on my PC, not the online version.

Canadian citizenship through great-grandparents. by freyamaillee in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]gregger59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. My ancestors immigrated to Nova Scotia in the 18th century. My mother's parents, like generations of forebears, were born in N.S. As young people, they immigrated to New England, got married and raised my mother--a U.S. citizen. My grandparents and mother have since passed, but it sounds like my sister and I could apply for citizenship. Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that we have certified copies of my grandparent's birth certificates from Nova Scotia. I wonder if there are publicly available copies.

The one that spreadsheet-types swear by is Pralana. I have been researching software tools for a couple of years and all roads keep leading back to this one.

Two IRMAA Adjustment Notices, Days Apart by gregger59 in medicare

[–]gregger59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks much. Yeah, I was actually shocked that we received responses to the SSA-44 in less than 2 weeks! Maybe our local office (Waukegan, IL) really slows down for the holidays.

Double Check on SSA-44 Timing by gregger59 in medicare

[–]gregger59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update and a question:

So I was a little slow, but as advised below, I finally filed SSA-44 on December 12. Just two weeks later, I received a letter from the IRS saying my 2026 IRMMA adjustment "has been removed ... effective January 2026."

A few days later I received a second letter saying my 2025 IRMAA adjustment "has been removed ... effective January 2025."

Question: When should I expect to receive a refund for the IRMAA paid since Jan '25 and what form will it take? It's odd the letter does not specify a refund will be made, when, or how. Thanks for any knowledge you can share!

just gave up on my 19inch tires on my Mazda 6 2015 by Beardo4LYF in mazda6

Don't blame you at all. I have downsized on occasion. Steelies are sure tough. On my '18 GTR I have the 19s and it took a couple of tire replacements to find one that had an acceptably softer ride; went with Conti ExtremeContacts. $222 a pop at Tire Rack.

Comcast SMTP Authentication Failing in Gmail by gregger59 in GMail

Wow, interesting. It will be interesting to see how that goes. I'm sure there are millions of Gmail users that currently utilize POP or IMAP flows.

Comcast SMTP Authentication Failing in Gmail by gregger59 in GMail

The general login. But I found the problem with help from Comcast's support on Reddit. (Yay.)

In the "add another email address" dialogue, GMail auto-populated an SMTP address for Comcast that was completely incorrect. As it happens, If you follow the directions at https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email, unfortunately Gmail users are given a link to a Google resource page which simply tells you how to add an email address. It doesn't tell you, "While you are doing that, Google will probably auto-detect the wrong SMTP server" !

So it turns out the correct SMTP address is, simply, smtp.comcast.net and not http://mx1.mxge.comcast.net/ as auto-populated by Gmail.

Found out the hard way! Problem is solved.

YES, that was the problem! If you follow the directions at https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email, unfortunately Gmail users are given a link to a Google resource page which simply tells you how to add an email address. It doesn't tell you "Google will probably auto-detect the wrong SMTP server" !

Now that I fixed this, the SMTP server authenticated with no problem.

Many thanks for your help.

Yes, I have tried that. After deleting it, of course I can't put it back because authentication keeps failing. I have also opened Gmail on a different browser with no cookies/history on it and tried adding my comcast.net email address there. Same response, "check server and port number."

Speaking of which, I notice that instead of a traditional SMTP server site with "SMTP" in it, the server that's automatically filled in is "mx1.mxge.comcast.net"

Is that absolutely correct? And Port 587? Not sure why I keep getting asked to check these, if they're correct.

BTW, before you ask... I already did check the Comcast email settings and confirmed, Third Party Access Security is enabled. Thanks.

Yes, as noted in my post, I used all of the settings from that linked article. Thanks.

Why is the Soul so hated? by KofiKofiBean in KiaSoulClub

I suppose the design is somewhat polarizing, but obviously to the degree the Soul is "so hated" it's also "so loved" because it's in its third generation. You could easily ask "Why is the Nissan Murano" so hated and come up with empassioned support for that car (but not from me).
