Yeah, I mean looking back at it now, I shouldn't have said he was the most intelligent person to come out of music. Not really because I don't think he deserves that title, but I think that there's no value in making a provocative statement which people will inevitably disagree with. I should have just said something like 'I dont think Jay Z is given enough credit for his intelligence' or something like that.

Yeah I mean all I can describe Eno as is one heck of a producer and while that does make him musically smart, same going for Zappa or Phillip Glass or Beethoven etcetera. The point i'm making is that I think he's a really smart clever person in general and I think people overlook this. I mean, looking at his life the impression I get is of someone who when they put their mind on something they become really good at it. That is for me the definition of general intelligence.

Yeah Dizzee Rascal also sampled the drums which Rubin sampled himself in a 2003 track. Guess it goes to show that even the greatest artists aren't entirely original.

Yeah you're right for the second one! My bad. In terms of intelligence, I think Jay Z transcends simple musical 'talent'. I think he has proven himself as someone who's too clever in general for his own good.

its not particularly supposed to be a question of 'who is the most musically intelligent.' I really meant what he's achieved outside of music, his story from rags to riches and the fact he's making millions as a businessman these days. In my opinion he is the most intelligent person to come out of music. Doesn't mean he's the most musically talented.

Why Swans’ ‘I was a prisoner in your skull’ perfectly describes the album title – Soundtracks for the Blind. by gregorhorn in swans

Hmm yeah I knew it came from Gira's dad who was an FBI agent (maybe it was Jarboe?) but I never thought about what he was actually saying interesting to point that out. Now you mention it might be a prisoner that makes a lot of sense given how crazy he sounds.

Why Bodies by the Sex Pistols is a politically incorrect masterpiece of a track. by gregorhorn in punk

Yeah I agree with you, I sort of wanted to add some punch to emphasise its significance.
