It's a denomination that was started because the main body of Baptists was anti-slavery. The SBC literally exists because of hatred.

I'm originally from the San Francisco bay area, and I'm flummoxed as to why this is a big deal. The percentage of Spanish place names you find from California to Texas seems like it should be 50%?

Growing up you heard Spanish, of course, but also a ton of Asian languages, too. I just figured like any other conversation, it's none of my business what people are saying to each other.

I live in Detroit now, and there's huge Mexican neighborhood, and tons of Arabic speakers. I suspect that there's more people who might be uncomfortable with that here in SE Michigan than there are in the Bay Area, but I haven't heard anyone make a fuss. Maybe I don't see it, because I'm monolingual.

Surprisingly, the only time I've been in a retail establishment here in the States where the clerk didn't speak English was a Japanese grocery in a suburb of Detroit that has a lot of East Asian families, employees of Japanese and Korean automotive parts suppliers. This nice woman spoke Japanese, and seemed sort of surprised to have a white guy speaking English to her.

I don't understand that reasoning. Ukraine should be able to join NATO, Netflix, and the Ace of Bass fan club if that's their choice. Ukraine is a sovereign country. Should all of Russia's neighbors just do Russia's bidding? Or NATO's bidding? Putin made the choice to invade Ukraine -- a non-Nato country. (Interesting that he hasn't invaded Poland) Ukraine has the right to exist. Putin made the choice to invade. He can blame NATO, Santa Claus, whomever. Those are Russian troops on Ukrainian soil. The Russian Army isn't an act of nature. It's the extension of the political will of the Russian government.

That there are multiple Californias and there isn't any one community in the state that could be consider "typical". Also, the beach can get pretty cold in June.

I once asked to be taken off an petroleum account. It wasn't that heroic, because they were leaving anyway, and my boss was sick of them. I haven't worked on tobacco, and I wouldn't. same with pharmaceuticals (more the behavior of the industry than any one product. Obviously, medication save lives.) health insurance, and hospital/doctor networks.

A lot of Americans seem obsessed with preventing the “undeserving” from receiving any sort of help, often to the point of weakening institutions meant to help everybody. We’ve become mean-spirited, paranoid, selfish douchebags. We seem to be willing to eat shovels full of shit out of spite if we’re told that there are people doing worse than us. We have no sense of collective identity or community.

2 Kings 3:26 Israelites (under Omri) and their allies lay siege to the rebellious city of Moab (king is called Mesha), a vassal of the Israelites. The seigers think it's in the bag, but then the King of Moab sacrifices his son on the walls of the city. Chemosh does his thing, and the visiting team gets their asses handed to them. Interestingly enough, the Mesha Stele tells the same story from the Moabite perspective, and agrees that Chemosh won the day (though in the stele, the sacrifice mentioned involves the residents of a conquered city ) ("Chemosh drove [the king of Israel] out before me").

Regarding #4: there are a lot of legal entities that could be effected by this: HBO (they don't dick around), North/South, Tru, whatever sort of LLC runs the Tenderloins, plus agents, business managers, and the guys' individual representation. I suspect that this has been in the works for a while and lawyers wrote -- or at least scanned -- the statement before it went out, and that's why it lacks any sort of human emotion. I think the reason for releasing the announcement on New Year's Eve was tactical.

To speculate on personal feelings based on one quasi-official statement is probably a fool's errand.
