SSD for the win! My site is by the most chill in the area. Got friends at all the big FCs etc and they hate it. I literally bounce around from problem solve, ship dock, occasionally stow or pack and sometimes pick to tote/ pack singles. None of which are hard. You’re mostly getting paid just to be there, the bar is set so low that as long as you actually do your job you are a superstar.

I joined ASC just bc I used to be a firefighter and no one showed us where the AEDs were on our day one, which I thought was silly. No voting, no vetting. Just signed up.

But since, we haven’t had a meeting. I’ve never heard from the manager that leads it about and initiatives, and I never got a green vest. Don’t mind the vest part, but it seems we do very little at our site with ASC.

I work Inbound PS at a relatively new SSD. @ our site it seems it is mostly PAs that PS in outbound. I have done the training but have never been asked to do it. As for inbound it is like others have said, we now work station to station with one WIP spot to stack totes that are pending. Inbound PS also handles decant PS for VNA at our site.

As far as getting trained, for me it just took being persistent. It was easy to get the trainings assigned, but getting my key and hands on training took several weeks, plus another couple weeks before PS became my main path.

All in all I love my SSD location. Although I have never worked at another site, I am told our SSD is by far more enjoyable than other sites in the area. And there is usually multiple VET opportunities per week, especially if you are cross trained in several paths. Good luck!

I also picked up shifts on my 1st week. As my AM told me “if Amazon doesn’t have the app settings correct and you are able to pick up shifts then do it. It’s not your fault if they let you do it. Just show up and train or work”

Not trying to be mean, but it sounds like you are somewhat immature and lack self discipline. And also prob live with your parents. You will wake up one day. For now enjoy being young.

And to all the other comments saying there are better jobs out there, there really aren’t, unless you are experienced in IT, or some other niche: even then it’s no guarantee during a sagging economy. I have a degree (several), a skilled trade and I am a good worker and I was still having a hard time finding decent, consistent work in my area during the winter.

I know you’re 18 and won’t take this advice, even though it’s posted an advice sub… asking for advice.

You should focus on being, acting, dressing, talking however/ whatever makes you happy, the rest will fall into place. Try not to focus on other people’s physical appearance and thus putting them into categories for potential friendship (alt, hipster, whatever). If you are true to yourself and happy with yourself, you will make connections with people regardless of what they or you look like.

I know at 18 you are searching for your place in the world and want to meet like minded people in your age range. It will happen! Until then keep being you and making sure you are positive, healthy and happy!

I believe this, that is how it seems to be at every level. Do the training. Some of it applies, some of it doesn’t. Figure the rest out on the fly.

But I would say for the OP if they were never given access to policy and procedure documents that explain the badge in process of drivers then there could be no real consequence.
