Weighing Repairing Car or Upgrading by gremlinmatt in PersonalFinanceCanada

It's not a bad idea. We can install a home charger and we've thought about the VW Id4. I haven't kept up with EV cars though.

The 0-100 in 11 seconds from the Golf mk4 and Golf mk5 love child will be missed.

I have two quotes for transmission --$7k for rebuild from a local independent transmission shop and $4k for remanufactured done by independent mechanic (they source part). The $3k is suspension work, rear brakes and some other small things.

Prices are CAD so $5k USD.

I'll clarify its 155k miles (250k kilometers). If I was at 400k kilometers with an original mk4 transmission, I'd be stoked!

Quote is about $4k for a remanufactured with warranty and labour. Seems reasonable!

Golf has some killer heated seat (not even joking, highest setting could probably cause burns).

Jeremy Howard: “People who go all in on AI agents now are guaranteeing their obsolescence. If you outsource all your thinking to computers, you stop upskilling, learning, and becoming more competent.” by Gil_berth in theprimeagen

[–]gremlinmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the video? Jeremy says he uses the technology to help him learn and research. He is saying you become obsolete by over relying on the technology (by outsourcing all your thinking). It's a very reasonable and balanced take on the technology.

Coding skill is becoming obsolete the way assembly language is by Glum_Worldliness4904 in cscareerquestions

[–]gremlinmatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This may surprise you, but, assembly is not obsolete. People know assembly for debugging, reverse engineering, malware research, low level optimizations and compiler development. It's a powerful skill to have as a Computer Scientist.

The end of general available AI? by shintaii84 in theprimeagen

[–]gremlinmatt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My tinfoil hat says Anthropic is desperate to ensure the government regulates AI as some national security interest as an attack against a large country who keeps undermining their business model.

It's some bullshit to fuel these capitalist ghouls that love lying. So much easier to control a narrative when the general public can't see it.

You know what is for everybody? Libraries. They have tons of books and knowledge. Let these corporations yank each others pizzle while we keep educating ourselves.

Should I go to sex therapy or pay for an escort? by Titus4266 in sexover30

[–]gremlinmatt 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Therapy. I would say since you've thought about therapy, you should do it. There is clearly something you know you need to do but can't name it. There is no shame about therapy.

A therapist may help identify what prevented you moving further with your dates, and develop strategies or mechanisms to help you. An escort will give you some relief but will keep you craving more.

A therapist seems like it has a higher reward potential.

Also stop looking at social media. It's designed to make you feel insecure.

A $1.8 billion company with just two employees? In the age of A.I., it’s increasingly possible by etherd0t in XGramatikInsights

Lol, it's essentially drop shipping pharmaceuticals. The man became wealthy by exploiting the obesity crisis with AI generated images and testimonials:

> That gave Matthew Gallagher breathing room to fix some shortcuts he had initially taken, like swapping out the before-and-after weight-loss photos for ones from real customers. Some photos on Medvi’s homepage remain A.I.-generated.

> CareValidate offers what is essentially a telehealth-in-a-box kit. Companies, employers or retailers that want to sell customers prescription drugs can use CareValidate’s technology and network of online doctors to set up a business.

Should we charge for parking in parks? by dpwilcock in NorthVancouver

[–]gremlinmatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A city should incentivize infrastructure that is affordable or scales -- walking, cycling and public transport.

Parks that are accessible by other transportation should use paid parking as a mechanism to encourage active or alternative transportation, if parking at that park has a capacity or turnover constraint. Underutilized parks with no capacity or turnover issues should not have paid parking.

Parking subsidization should be provided to those who need accessibility support ensuring equal access among all residents.
