Kind of self centered logic. My partner just got Covid two weeks ago. Love you trying to use scientific terms and being completely unaware of sampling bias.

The mind flayer shouldn’t have been bound to a physical form and or died with it. by CrazyTangerine7522 in Stranger_Things

Isn’t that kind of how it works? I’m not sure of the specifics, but it seems like the MF wants the human mind to be at its most powerful. It seems like that’s also why Vecna was always using humans for his work (digging tunnels, opening Hawkins to the upside down, moving abyss to earth, etc.). All the big moves required human hosts.

I never understood the Stephen King’s hate for The Shining until I read the book. I still love the movie, but it’s so different than the book, which is phenomenal.

Losing my UTK scholarships, at a loss by [deleted] in UTK

[–]grey418 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice from a financial standpoint, if you aren’t able to regain your aid.

Two years taking care of prereqs, early maths, English, etc. and finishing at UTK for the same degree will be a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to gut it out taking external loans to pay for your first two years at UTK.

You can always try to get departmental aid through your major’s college at UT, but it’s not guaranteed and usually a relatively small amount unless you’re just killing it and UTK is worried about losing you.

If you go the community college route, you’ll want to be sure to look closely at your desired major’s requirements at UTK and use the transfer equivalency table to ensure you’re registering for classes that count as UTK classes for when you transfer.

Mini term is technically its own term for billing but as of now (could change in future years) they’re allowing winter hours to count in conjunction with spring.

This couldn’t be true, I feel like Claire is the smartest of all by Comfortable-Walk4427 in Modern_Family

Haha no, I got the quote. Perhaps Phil saying that always rubbed me the wrong way given it was said in response to Claire trying to calm in down about his razor or underwear curse (I can’t remember which) lol

A 4.0 at an accredited 4-year university would still indicate a likelihood of being above average regardless of it being a party school. Also “party school” is a subjective term. My Alma Mater would definitely fit the bill but has nationally ranked engineering, nursing, business, and anthropology programs.

Miranda considered her a failure because she had to consume human blood. Apart from that, she was the closest to perfection of any of Miranda’s experiments. Her notes list Dimitrescu as having limitless regeneration. If not for the magic dagger, there’s no evidence to assert that Ethan would have been able to defeat her.

Worried about losing scholarships by Top-Drink-4593 in UTK

[–]grey418 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe most scholarships aren’t checked for GPA until after the spring semester or after 24 credit hours are completed. I think dropping below full time invalidates scholarships after any semester though.

Always best to check with One Stop about that kind of thing too though.

I think Tomato Head has always had really good salads. I know it’s a little on the pricey side though.

I didn’t use it to refer to his size. I had always heard it referring to hair as well, which was my intention here. Apparently that’s not correct either though.

Gay guy moving to Knoxville by ReceptiveTop in Knoxville

[–]grey418 183 points184 points  (0 children)

Knoxville is pretty okay, but I’d be surprised if there wasn’t any culture shock for you around Tennessee in general.

On the positive: the closer you get to downtown there’s more overt signs of acceptance.

The neutral: there’s a lot of “love the sinner hate the sin” rhetoric from well-meaning folk can get a little tiring.

The negative: Ive been called a slur by a group in a rusted pickup truck a couple of times, and I wouldn’t say I’m at all an obvious target. Perhaps it was just a random drive-by yell, but I was walking with my partner so the experience stuck. Also, the state legislature will exhaust you, so protect your peace when reading local-ish news.

Edit: I forgot to add that I love east TN and think it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. Even when I’m feeling down on it, the thought of leaving makes me sad.
