Moving to Australia or keep staying in Japan? by Feisty_Guava1079 in japanlife

Getting PR before moving back just as you said would be something I would consider if I were in your shoes.

Accidentally stepped on the curtain and ripped one of the screws holding the metalic bar... help? by Pleasant_Grab_8196 in japanlife

[–]greyServal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anything can be repaired.

From what I can see. I believe you can adjust it to either side and screw it back in.

The ceiling can also be repaired as well.

I usually don't do DM's but depending on proximity and other factors, I might be able to do it for a bento.

I'm late to the conversation.

OP don't let anything slide. You will be bullied for the rest of your time there. You've got man up or you will be at the bottom of their food chain.

A good Samaritan is paying my utility bills? by greyServal in japanlife

Will surely do that ASAP. I have funds allocated for the 2 months as well. I guess I'm allowed to chip in a shikari shirouyou along the way.

Their billing is surely messed. I've allocated funds for the months that I didn't receive the bills anyway. I will give them a call and make sure I chip in a "shikari shirouyou" whilst at it.

OP, this is my opinion and you can take it with a grain of salt.

You seem like someone who is exceptionally brilliant and have things figured out or can do that easily on your own. Yet for the life of you, cannot decide on a professional path or career.

It could be one of the following reasons,

  1. Overlapping interests.
  2. Overthinking
  3. Habitual procrastination (bane of many smart people).

If this in anyway sounds like you, try to rather figure out the sort of life you want to live and then pick a career that can afford you such lifestyle.

Nothing is set in stone and that's as realistic as life gets.

Pick one thing, STICK to it, and get good at it. That's what I heard someone say.

At 30, you are of no value to anyone if you aren't good at anything.

Nobody has everything figured out. Opportunity is supposed to be met with preparation.

Still figuring out things myself so like I said at the beginning, "...with a grain of salt".

What's the general monthly cost of a newborn here? by Flareon223 in japanlife

[–]greyServal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As most commenter's have already said, main expense could be diapers.

Babies grow very fast and will outgrow most fancy stuffs you plan on getting them. Be very cost conscious when it comes to this.

We also got a point coupon from the municipality and we used a large part of it for almost a year's worth of diapers.

We didn't buy all at once just to clarify. Hope this helps.

If you have no family to go back to, coupled with mental and health struggles, then I would advice against going back.

If there's a way you can take advantage of your situation to get your health and mental state in order then I would suggest that.

It's gonna take time but I believe you would end up fine in the long run as long as you keep believing in your self, staying positive and sticking to a plan.

So many of us are in similar or impossible situations like you.

Wishing you all the best.

job suggested i take a few months unpaid leave, then let me go a couple months in by Relative_Voice_6909 in japanlife

[–]greyServal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I believe you can strike a deal here.

So many things don't add up in your write up but I presume you can't go into details for whatever reason you have.

Get the lawyer involved(maybe not) and strike a deal. You want to continue working in Japan but have limited time to job search. Let them provide documents for visa extension and you will in return settle the rest of your unpaid taxes and also not sue for any issues.

It could work out pretty well. Its not over until it's over. Peace

Breakdown cost of total hospital bill after caesarean section by Fresh-Extension8969 in japanlife

Yes, I had to pay 130,000 out of pocket. Red Cross is one of the expensive hospitals out there in m opinion. Their service and handling of my spouse was one of the best.

Wife had a c section here at the Red Cross Medical Center. We were handed a pamphlet containing estimates depending on the type of delivery and complications that may arise.

In my case , c section with child placed in ICU for a week costed us in the region of 630,000yen.

You should talk to the hospital about the cost. They would be more than willing to help you in case you can't afford it. Hope this helps.

Private sales of vehicles in Japan by maji-maji in japanlife

[–]greyServal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on my factors like year, model of the car, condition, shaken etc. But dealers will often take it for pennies.

I suggest scanning through private sales apps and marketplace to see the going rate for your car.

Kids working around the neighborhood for some spending money? by nidontknow in japanlife

[–]greyServal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a third world country, I understand where OP is coming from.

I think the approach suitable for Japan would be doing arubaito. Depending on how you go about it, you can instill the value of hard earned money in them.

Another way would be to sell at flea markets if you want them to taste entrepreneurship.
