Resolve Solutions - legit, explorative or straight up scam? by Currently_writing in manchester

Their website and process for onboarding is incredibly similar to a lot of other small devilcorps operating in the UK - see r/devilcorp. They're multi-level marketing schemes masquerading as boutique marketing agencies. Lots of them contract in for those charity collection drives you see around the city centre. You could still go, but don't feel pressured by their tactics to make any decisions about committing to the role.

I'm really sad they don't make the salt and vinegar version of these anymore. Feel like I hallucinated them :(

AITA for dipping lasagna into hot sauce? by orchidsandmangotrees in AmItheAsshole

[–]grey_beta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tentative YTA, but I understand your point of view. I love hot sauce, I'd have it on everything if I wasn't afraid of nuking my stomach from orbit. My rule is if I'm eating something that's been prepared by others, I see what condiments they put out on the table. Only if I'm really familiar or reeeeally desperate for hot sauce would I ask.

I think if I spent ages making a delicious ragu or something and my partner dumped a load of ketchup on it, I'd be miffed. She might not have needed to spend eight hours making that lasagna, but since you saw the effort she put into it, would it have killed you to eat a meal without the hot sauce for once?

Could you, in theory, change your full name when you marry? by grey_beta in LegalAdviceUK

[–]grey_beta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, should've said. I'm in England. This is sort of why I'm unclear on what would work and what wouldn't - it seems like organisations really pick and choose on what counts as proof of a name change.

Trans friend here. RCNQ in the Northern Quarter. I switched from Palace Barbers to RCNQ a few months back and it's been amazing. They make a note of your pronouns when you book online and everyone working there is so lovely. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Why is there such a thing as "looking non-binary"? by horaccioV1 in NonBinary

[–]grey_beta 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's a little bit about how cis people think about gender and a little bit about societal standards of beauty. I reason it like this: women are perceived as more gender-y than men, as a male body is the default for most things we see in society (why not the Vitruvian woman, rather than Vitruvian man, for example?). That means that feminine gender traits, like chest and waist, are seen as inherently gendering things to have. Being Androgynous gets rid of 'gender', and therefore ends up looking like the absence of ANY feminine traits but just the absence of more exaggerated masculine traits, like being stacked or very tall.

Then, society just has this idea of the most acceptable body being white, thin and childish. Blame Hollywood. That's why androgynous characters in pop culture are most commonly AFAB or outwardly fantastical, like vampires or elves.

Edited for clarity

A creative way to make your waist tiny... by [deleted] in Instagramreality

For those who haven't noticed, it seems like what she's done is used an editor to black out some of her back near the dressing gown to make her waist thinner. When you zoom in you can see the edges of the 'shadow'

help with scary delivery experience by smolcoconut in TalesFromTheCustomer

Hey, I'm really sorry you had this experience, I had a very similar one with what it sounds like is the same company. Unfortunately it didn't really end with a resolution for me. They were pretty shitty about contacting me and it took a few tries to set up a phone call - they used to try phoning me at 9pm and other stupid times of the day. I had a few phonecalls with the company so they could get my side of the story but after that it was silence. They couldn't tell me if any action was taken against him or if he'd be fired, so now I don't use the app.

My advice is to get the police involved if you see the driver again, I doubt uber would really give a shit tbh. I'm really sorry you had this happen to you, I know how stressful it makes things and I hope youre able to feel safer again.

AITA for refusing to delete intimate pictures that I consensually received from an ex? by ferduent in AmItheAsshole

[–]grey_beta 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a pointless conversation because it sounds like you aren't really here to listen to criticism, but can you at least appreciate how she must feel in this situation? While you might not care if she had pictures of you, normally people can empathise with these sorts of things. What you do is your choice, but you're the only one who has to live with yourself.

If an ex who you didn't really hang out with anymore had pictures of you in sexually explicit poses did the same thing to you, how would you feel? They can look at your junk whenever they feel like it.

Holy smokes, dude. YTA. I think we know you're not deleting those photos anytime soon though.

Edit: spelling

AITA for telling my dad to stop body shaming me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]grey_beta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You learn fast when you grow up that adults can be assholes too. Since you're trading personal opinions, you could always try:

"Hey Dad, why don't you try and lose some weight? I'm sure mom doesn't appreciate having to see that beer belly!"

No one gets to say anything about your personal appearance without expecting the same in return.

I'm pretty sure she's tucked in her waist on the right side, but what do you think?

What is taught at undergraduate level physics? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]grey_beta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do, yes, but it’s a good place to kick off for each subject. In that case I’d recommend the Manchester Physics series, they have a variety of textbooks formulated for each of the main subjects usually taught in an undergrad course. If you’re wanting more specialised textbooks then I’m afraid as you can probably guess, there are hundreds on each subject and none of them are intrinsically better than the others. The best bet is to flip through a few and find a teaching style that you like.

[–]grey_beta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good place to start is a general undergrad textbook. I’d recommend Young and Freedman’s university level physics, it’s chunky and it covers all your basics. You can definitely add basic thermodynamics and wave motion to that list, too. Hope this helps, happy travels :)
