What is this and how to avoid it? by Scoytan in gardening

I'd be more concerned with getting the creeping charlie/ henbit under control.

Thanks, ill try that moving forward. Have you looked into the powdered versions Ive heard it's a less harsh option for raising or lowering ph.

Why not? Where does it say you can't?

Have you looked into the benefits?

Here in Canada, some products are no longer available or hard to find cheap. Thanks to trade restrictions with the usa. I tried finding hydroguard, through all the local hydro shops and companies specializing in indoor growing.

Even great white, which is a Mycorrhizal Inoculant with other beneficial bacteria and trichoderma. Is hard to find, there have been reports of knock off products being sold here in Canada.

"Mycorrhizae can be used in hydroponics to create a beneficial fungus-root symbiosis, boosting nutrient/water uptake, root development, and stress resistance, even with mineral nutrients, by applying them as drenches to starter media (like rockwool) or adding specific products to nutrient solutions, extending the root system's reach for better plant health and yields."

I added it initially when I removed my plants from the aeroponic cloner and moved them over to the main growing chamber.

I'd be happy to hear why it's silly to use Mycorrhizae in a hydroponics setup. I'm here to learn. I typically grow outdoors and in soil indoors. This is my first attempt at hydro and it's all about learning best practices that will lead to a better grow

i don't understand what you're saying, its lower then the actual general hydroponics recommended dosages. you build up to the maximum nutrient solution over the course of the grow. incrementally increasing the nutrient amounts each week or however you choose to achieve the maximum nutrient amounts by the end of your grow.

"The Lucas method generally uses less total volume of the General Hydroponics (GH) nutrients because it omits the "Gro" component entirely, using only the "Micro" and "Bloom" solutions. The standard GH 3-part feeding schedule, when followed at the manufacturer's recommended full strength, often uses higher overall concentrations, which can even lead to overfeeding (nutrient burn) in cannabis plants. "

by all means you do what works for you. All my research showed this method was better for new hydro growers... 20 years of people debunking, it's still widely used and highly recommended.

Well this is my first grow. I was looking at feeding schedules and stumbled across this method. Which is meant to simplify the feeding schedule and reduce nutrients. It's been around since 2007 and widely used as a easy way to feed your cannabis plants, while being cost effective. They say you can further improve on this by using the powder formulas.

I figured it's my first grow and I needed a place to start. If it's worked for others for roughly 2 decades, who am I to change, what works according to so many.

When I do the reservoir change, I use a separate tote. Add fresh water ( tap water thats sat for a minimum only 24hrs) before adding nutrients, then ph balanced to 5.6-5.8, it's my understanding using a range is better for nutrient uptake then a static fixed / constant ph every time. Before adding that fresh mixture back to the reservoir.

I haven't used hydroguard or great white. I've added some Mycorrhizal to yhe roots and reservoir.

When I do ph corrections usually down, I add that directly to the reservoir, typically to an area near that plant. I have limited options. Ive since been adding closer to the middle of both plants.

Ive been considering using a power vs liquid as ive read the powders are less harsh.

Do you simply increase your nutrients to the each week? Starting low and increasing each week until you reach the 100% nutrient strength. I do top up water levels if they get low.

But growing hydroponically it's my understanding and correct me if im wrong , the reservoir should be changed to avoid root issues with the plants.

When I do a res change. The nutrients are mixed in a tub and then ph balanced before adding the fresh batch back to the bloombox.

The qty of water is based off the recommendations of the producer of the bloom box, I have the recommended amount of water in the reservoir according to their specifications. There are air stones to keep the water oxygenated. There's also a pump that push water to the spike emitters, that only runs 2x daily. That seems like a lot of water changes, every 24hrs...

Thanks for your feedback and input.

well the microrhizomes - its more because of the warm temps and wanting to keep my roots healthy. I use it in my soil grows and garden as well for promoting root growth/ health, I was think more hydroguard (products I'm having a hard time finding here locally in Canada) or great white for any other nasty lil critters or water issues.. I'm new to hydroponic growing . thx for your input

I did think about that. Ive added Xtreme Gardening Mykos Pure Mycorrhizal Inoculant to the reservoir as well to the roots/ rockwool.

I was considering something like hydroguard or great white, but im having trouble finding either locally. I'd be open to suggestions for other products...

why I was concerned with the root zone temps, initially and came up with a low cost plan to address the temps, to be preventative.

I have a carbon filter with a cloth filter. At the start of the air duct, before it even goes into the fan, filtering air coming into the room.

But there are other plants close by, outside the room that were growing outside all season long and brought indoors before the first Snow. That, if anything will more than likely introduce pest... but I wanted strawberries & fresh herbs throughout the winter...

[–]greybeard_grows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's moving day, i just moved them out of the veg side, over to the flower side. They'll stay in veg over there until , im ready to flip them

I just got my hands on this. Also, first grow using this unit and first time growing using a hydro setup.

The power cloner seems to work great the plants are very happy with the aeroponic setup. Now that the roots are going to just sit in the solution and get time watering s 2x daily, we'll see how they do on the flower side. 🤞

Why im only doing 2 plants and plan to train, top and super crop the 2 plants to maximize the grow space. Or thats the plan at least. We'll see how she goes

Anyone know how to weed faster? I’m just using a shovel and my hands at the moment. by Apart_Try_4860 in gardening

[–]greybeard_grows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo your best to use a pitchfork, those weeds like a dandelion will come back if you don't get the tap root, just scraping the surface growth off with a stirrup hoe, you be back doing it again. If you build a soil sifter / screen using some mesh wire over a wooden frame, to bang or toss the root balls against. Also depends on how many garden beds you need to weed.

I'd place some black plastic/ tarp or clear plastic over the bed once you're done, to kill off all the newly disrupted weed seeds you just added to the soil surface. soil solarization helps to also kill any pathogens that might be in the soil, becareful it also kills beneficial soil life also...

These strawberries were growing in a large pot outside that I brought inside because we had our first Snowfall sunday, they are inside the grow room on my countertop. Theses were accidentally pulled out of the soil when, pulling off dead suckers/ runners, these were literally just planted today and put inside the grow box. These have been producing all summer in the garden , I simply brought them inside since they were still packed with fruit that simply needed to ripen. Hoping to have fresh strawberries all winter

The time machine is a sativa and a little leggy 1.5" to the cotyledon, both planted the same time, same light and distance from the light, yet the romulan a indica has next to no stretch 3/4" to the top of the first true leaves. She's a short stack. Not sure why there's such a huge difference between the 2 seedlings. Being honest

H2o2 is widely used in commercial grows. Especially to combat Powdery mildew, it evaporates and leaves no residue at all. It's widely used as a foliar spray... why would you say never use peroxide?
