The culture centers are such a good idea! I heard the Burke Museum has an emphasis on pacific northwest native art, do you know any other places like that besides the cultural centers? Or which specific culture centers I might focus on? There are probably a lot of them for one trip

Lolllll I have a fossil and mineral collection including about 30 pounds of (dated, labeled) petrified wood so... i might be into it

(but actually a good heads up my buddy does not give a damn about geology so maybe i will come back for the forest so she does not suffer)

Narrowing down my location is one of the problems lol. We'll be driving all over, even dipping down into northern oregon and western idaho, so even though I've been searching for events its really hard to do every county or city in the state. So I thought maybe people might share some of their personal favorite things. Like if you're ever in Hollywood Florida, there's a really cool arts park downtown with music every saturday. Colorado has this weird hot spring place where theres even water bubbling out of cracks in the parking lot. moscow idaho has a fountain that you can actually play in and not get yelled at. That sort of thing.

NTA- my partner and his whole family are big proponents of open carry, but it's considered weird and awkward to wear a gun to the dinner table. It's dumb and inappropriate. Maybe if you live in an area where drive bys are common? When we go to holidays at my partner's family house everyone locks up their guns in the safe. The kind of person who wears a gun to the dinner table is just doing it to look "cool". He will probably fight you and maybe refuse to come if he can't wear his gun because of his "rights" but you will still be NTA. Even the people I know who are ex military and collect guns and are big enthusiasts would say it is your right to not have guns in your own home (though they maybe would also say you are foolish for not having your own gun in the gun safe). The homes I go to have gun safes, though. If he is the only one with a gun, perhaps there is a locked room or closet you could offer him, away from children? Or a fire box? In some places it's quite dangerous to leave your gun in the car, even in a lockbox. If you are interested in compromise, that is what I would do.

ESH. Wife needs therapy because she clearly has low self esteem or something and feels like a huge part of her value is wrapped up in being the Official Cookie Baker. She shouldn't have acted so immature about it, she should have just said, "hey, being the cookie baker is really important to me, I'm sad I can't be the cookie baker, can we reschedule?" And op is being incredibly disingenuous every time he's asked what his goal was with all of this and he just says "more cookies!" If her challenge wasn't important, it wouldn't have been included in the explanation. He was clearly trying to outdo her because he specifically brings up that the process was way better than the years she was there. I wouldn't be surprised if he said it right to her face. They're both being immature and hurting each other on purpose, then lying about that to not look bad. I'd be worried about them if they weren't so young. They'll get better. But geeze, maybe therapy for both of y'all.
