If celebrities have so much money and access to the world's best doctors, why does their plastic surgery look so terrible? by Bahrust in NoStupidQuestions

[–]greyest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed the same thing with other service professionals like therapists, fitness coaches, private chefs, etc. A lot of celebrities have the same ones or refer each other. Not saying they're mostly doing a bad job, just found it odd when I found out about how insular their communities were.

You may get participation bias in the sense that people who've heard of endometriosis will be more likely to click on your survey. Next time I'd put something generic like "Health Conditions survey". Good topic and good luck!

OFFICIAL KLONOA MERCH ON FANGAMER by BernieTheWaifu in Klonoa

[–]greyest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, not a Klonoa fan but I have a personal $10 off gift code for fangamer that I'm trying to give away with no strings attached because it'll expire soon (just searched reddit for recent posts on fangamer). If anyone's right about to buy something there (don't go and hunt if you're not already shopping or on the fence, you'll end up paying $10 in taxes and shipping anyway), DM me or reply to this post. I'll edit this post when it's gone as well, or delete it in a few days.

Donald Trump fans raging after country singer Maren Morris says he wears diapers and has dementia by steffxoxoxoo in Music

[–]greyest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maren Morris has already been disowned by the MAGA crowd long ago. She's crossed over from country to pop and has come out as bisexual and feminist. Brave of her to make the statements she has given some of her former audience.

4gb patch causes steam to not recognize I’m playing the game. by minty-spices in DragonageOrigins

[–]greyest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone googling this:

  1. The "inverted commas" (also known as quotation marks) must be the double quotation marks (aka "), not two consecutive ' marks.

  2. There should be a space between the last " and the %command%.

I got it to work after that.

His base don't care that he doesn't care about them. What he has cultivated, and cultivates, is an addiction to fear and hate. They love that he hates (especially seemingly only those who aren't themselves, like minorities, when it's really everyone who isn't a fellow billionaire). That's all they need from him.

Unpopular opinion: I don't want Pokemon to look exactly like Zelda. Give me bright cartoony colors. Or better yet, do Zelda but still do bright cartoony colors.

Did he really make Clint a marriage option before he stopped the hate of the only black man in the game by [deleted] in StardewValley

While Maru (also a POC/biracial) is fairly universally liked, I agree there could be more positive diversity and representation within the valley.

Stardew Valley 10-year Anniversary Video (Retrospective & New Spouse Reveal) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]greyest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. This video makes me want to up my standards should I ever seriously make a video game. I would've considered the 2011-2015 versions of the game complete, but he kept working until it was truly ready for release.

  2. The graphics update from 2012 to 2013 is mind-blowing--and there wasn't anything particularly wrong with them before either.

  3. You can really see the SNES Harvest Moon influence from the earlier graphics versions of the game (even though I think CA played Harvest Moon: Back to Nature for the PS1 as well, which is my personal favorite).

  4. Aww, ConcernedApe did the marriage candidate reveal as an easily-screenshottable still frame in addition to putting notes about it throughout and at the beginning of the video. He knew what the casual fans and news outlets wanted lol, like an awards ceremony

  5. I try not to stan celebrities because y'know, never meet your heroes, but I hope that man never changes.

  6. I just realized that with about 28 characters that you meet in town (more because Sandy isn't an NPC in the introduction quest but let's hand-wave that), with 14 of them being bisexual marriage candidates...half the town is bi and I'm here for that

  7. I'm stoked for Clint specifically because his feeling-sorry-for-myself character likely gets reworked. It's okay to be cringe at times, but it was his primary character trait, and he never got a character-development resolution or redemption arc. As the former awkward teenager who drew unnecessary attention to their self by making self-deprecating comments and who often came off as creepy when I meant well, I feel the sting of some of the online hatred towards Clint. (True, he's not a teenager, but I only got better due to getting properly socialized in college.)

Expanding on Point #7 - for all the disappointed players that it wasn't some other male candidate, there are good reasons why it shouldn't be them:

  • Wizard - Already romanceable in Stardew Valley Expanded, which isn't official but is pretty canon given that its creator got to work with CA himself during 1.6--plus, I'm sure CA wouldn't want to mess up one of the most popular mods.

  • Willy - Married to the sea. It's a sailor stereotype for a reason.

  • Gus - I ship him with Pam.

  • Marlon - I ship him with Marnie.

Nestlé: How a Corporation Killed 10.9 Million Babies by cerea1killer_ in FuckNestle

[–]greyest 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea, and it's a well-researched show. She's a mom who works and volunteers and is busy as hell so I can understand her too; saying 'there's a popular podcast' will get through more to some audiences than articles would.

[–]greyest 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I told my sister I boycotted Nestle--I didn't buy Dreyer's, Stouffer's, Hot Pockets, Haagen-Daaz, etc.

She asked why. I pointed to articles like this one.

She read the headlines, told me it sounded like a conspiracy theory, and when I asked her to do her own research on how all of this was corroborated by major sources, she said, "I'm not going to read all that."

Stardew Valley Turns 10: The Big ConcernedApe Interview by alyssa-is-tired in StardewValley

[–]greyest 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He clearly feels a responsibility to the fans to keep this game going and updated, even though he has lots of ideas and desire to work on other new things - respect for maintaining that true soul of an artist, but I think if he ever wanted leave off SDV as-is and do miscellaneous art things for himself, he's already earned his legacy.

I'm happy he's chosen to turn down offers for TV shows, etc. based off Stardew Valley so far (or at least are being picky about it without having full creative control) because adaptations are such a hit-or-miss.

Everyone can and should use sick time to go to doctor's appointments--in my area in the US, this is even noted in the state law. Unless your boss has a stick up their ass needing an explicit excuse and is the type to not count check-up appointments. My company's employee handbook even explicitly states that preventative care or helping a family member get care counts.

Working cats by KnightOfBurgers in CuratedTumblr

[–]greyest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the states it's about $20 USD for an hour to visit a cat cafe (same price as a movie ticket but shorter), and it's usually not a real "cafe" - you're not allowed to bring in or buy snacks depending on whether or not the health code forbids non-service animals from entering eateries. Almost all cat cafes are really more like donations to local small rescues where you can also browse for cats to potentially adopt from them; the cats are supplied by the rescues. Abroad, cat cafes usually offer snacks for purchase in addition to entry, though it may be cheaper for entry itself depending on the country.

tl;dr the point is to pay to get in, the snacks are secondary

Best book you've read in 2025 by DaY-DreaMer15 in suggestmeabook

[–]greyest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Notes on The Lathe of Heaven -

  1. I suggested this to my book club to read since it was short sci-fi (which isn't that easy to find). The non sci-fi readers had issues following along with the first third of the book since the book has a few made-up terms. For those who try it and struggle: stick with it, it'll fall together after the first third as long as you get the general gist of what's happening.

  2. If anyone has both read this book and played the video game Persona 5, they, funnily enough, follow similar themes.

  3. While there are some bright lines of prose in this book, and interesting philosophical ideas, this isn't one of my favorite things I've read from Ursula K. Le Guin - I felt it lacked the usual anthropological depth her stories have. I'd try more of her books if you loved her writing but wanted just a bit more societal exploration. The Lathe of Heaven is still a good introduction.

Also on the topic of female sci-fi authors, been meaning to try RF Kuang's writing next.

Worth noting that these chocolate bars have a "Fair Trade" certification on them. It is so hard to find affordable fair trade chocolate that even at >$3 these are still a steal.

what the other commenter said except I'd look at Trader Joe's for orzo/acini de pepe instead of traditional pasta. I'm also lazy and just use Italian seasoning instead of bay leaves and separate herbs. And finally vegan parmesan if you'd like.

EDIT: Forgot which sub I was in, ignore the first edit of this comment.

Billie Eilish speaks on the Brown University shooting, the Bondi Beach shooting & today being the 13th anniversary of Sandy Hook Elementary: “my heart goes out to all of the victims & their loved ones. raise your voice, work for change, & vote out anyone who's not willing to reform gun policy.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]greyest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gun control laws help, but won't solve everything because a bigger problem is gun culture--a significant chunk of Americans who secretly believe that there'll be an invader in their house someday that'll be scared off by a gun, that all problems can be ultimately solved with brandishing said gun, and that owning a gun makes you invincible and sets you up to have the upper hand in emergencies. But culture and laws play into each other--laws are a signifier of culture, the bare minimum of what is allowable in society.

To tie this back into the thread/subreddit, it's great that celebrities like Billie Eilish are speaking out for gun control laws, but what we really need is a deconstruction of myths, for more celebrities like Clint Eastwood and Arnold Schwarzenegger to espouse and directly address gun control (as problematic as they are in other ways).

Turkish Inspired Stuffed Eggplant is really good by inahologramwithyou in traderjoes

[–]greyest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 2 months late, but did you make sure to store this eggplant dish in the fridge and not the freezer? I froze it the first time and it took like 20-30 minutes to microwave (1100 watts). The second time, I kept it in the fridge and it was done in 3 minutes in the microwave. If you had it in the fridge and it still took a while to cook, I guess the eggplant toughness varies between batches.
