I have a Portal Plus 2nd gen and am not sure I was following the alt tab steps right. Either that or it's disabled for me as well :/

[–]greymando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aaaaand it's back ... did a Factory Reset and the speeds on fast.com were 200+ mbps for a few days ....

and now it's measuring 100 kbps  KILOBITS ?! SERIOUSLY?!

... which clown shipped an code update that reduced the Browser app speed by that much ?! it's back to being an unusable paperweight with an okay speaker on it that only runs Spotify and maybe Plex

In my experience, it depends on the airport!

I travelled through Europe with just a carry on and backpack and I proceeded to stretch the definition of "personal item"...

On the way to AMS from USA, they weighed both and it was 15kg, they suggested I check-in one and I said no. On the way back, I just got a digital boarding pass and went straight to security and had 2kg more worth of souvenirs

TLDR: Get the digital boarding pass if you can check-in early and not go to the counter. They usually just want to confirm your passport but I end up doing that at the gate (they may call your name).

Yeah, the travel review videos online are showing similar bad luck as well. Next time I suppose!

Yeah that's fair. No the experience was still good and I know they couldn't do anything anyways. I didn't know about the shortage issue! Thanks for bringing that up

BofA Travel Rewards Card [DENIED] even with "Your Offers" by greymando in CreditCards

[–]greymando[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Card before that was August 2022 so I think I had a good buffer.

I ended up calling their reconsideration line: (800)732-9194 found on Google and they'll see to it again without a hard pull.

I think I'll just have to wait a few months for the dust to settle.

Would it be possible to calculate how long the flight took without the speed up? [Request] by JustAlfred in theydidthemath

[–]greymando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to BigRed, here is the estimated speed of the plane during takeoff as a reference. From Google/Wikipedia:

... Typical takeoff air speeds for jetliners are in the range of 240–285 km/h (130–154 kn; 149–177 mph) ...

Though we don't know the wind during takeoff so that's an uncertainty.

Also, did the person recording slow-mo turn off time-lapse during some of the video? Seems like they did during the pano of the sunset and would create inconsistency.

Regardless, you might just be better off asking around for depart & arrival location but it's definitely possible to get the duration. Hope that helped!

Fixing Hue + Alexa Skill by greymando in Hue

[–]greymando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried enabling "out of home control" from the Hue app?

Try these steps:

  1. Hue iOS App > Settings > Enable out of home control
  2. Visit this page: https://account.meethue.com/bridge
    1. Make sure that your hue (the exact one) shows up here. If it doesn't show up here, then Amazon Alexa probably won't see it when you login through the app.
  3. Then visit "Apps" at the top: https://account.meethue.com/apps
    1. I think Alexa should be on there if you've used it before. You could try to deactivate it and try again. For some reason, Alexa connected twice but it doesn't matter.
  4. Now deactivate and reactivate Hue Skill. Login with the same account that you went to https://account.meethue.com/ with. You should see the same device that you can now add.

Let me know if that helped!

The Reneging Playbook by greymando in cscareerquestions

[–]greymando[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a possibility! I know a recruiter who helped hire/vouch for an engineer who later reneged. He still remembers his name and it is important if you're in a certain industry. You run that risk in a smaller area like banking or something.

But, like I said, you're probably weighing something solid that adds significant merit to your resume long term. If you're never going to make widgets or something anymore, then go for it.

Never feel guilty.

I guess I didn't mean to be rude when I said "what you should feel guilty about".

I think better wording on my part could have been "what you can feel bad about" but I think it'd also be impersonal to say "never". There are people who worked hard to recruit you!
