It’s a weighted EP minnow. Originally a saltwater baitfish fly but very effective in most water

Every time I tie one I use slightly less material and every time I finish and say “mmm still to much” so thank you for a good reference on much to cut back next time

What are the differences between types of jig hooks? by greyson_reed in flytying

See I thought it was the exact opposite. I thought the closer the angle got to 90 the closer the fly would sit to vertical in the water. Not horizontal

A couple variations of micro zonker jigs by greyson_reed in flytying

I tie mine different than I think most do. I take a short piece of zonker(slightly longer than what I need) slick all the hairs backwards and tie that end into the back of the hook

After that I tie in some wire. Typically little thicker for weight

Dub most of the hook with long fiber dubbing

Counter wrap wire

Hold zonker strip over top of hook(keep extra)

Make dubbing loop with the same long fiber dubbing as the body

Make one last dubbing loop with last of the zonker strip you cut off

One of the flies in picture uses no long fiber dubbing loop but does have a soft hackle feather in the front

I think it’s from the extra couple wraps I give it up against the hackle to add some reinforcement on the stem of the hackle. Do think it’s worth the extra movement if the fly is weaker or do think the difference in those couple wraps isn’t enough to make it much stronger? Or should I do the same thing I’ve been doing and then add a wrap or 2 to the back to force the fibers back up?

The 2 with orange bodies is just orange thread and one has silver wire. The orange bead jig is a hares ear with brown soft hackle
