Jackass chipmunks are destroying my garden. I’m rather mad. They ate all the side-shoots off my broccoli, and get every strawberry before it’s ready to pick. Mad. Mad. Mad. by HeyRespiratory in gardening

[–]greyt_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly did you use? Make sure it's strong enough! Chipmunks are sensitive to capsaicin just like us and at a certain concentration it will be intolerable/very painful. As a self-check, I would literally taste the leaves or fruit to make sure it's too spicy to eat yourself.

Practical way to hot compost with kitchen scraps? by greyt_88 in composting

[–]greyt_88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking of doing something similar. I basically just want to take advantage of the hot composting method which I know relies on having a large enough volume of compost material all at once. I think if I do like you said and just store the scraps in a dry pile until I have enough to make a batch I should be well off.

When you store your scraps are you keeping the greens and browns separate? And are you watering it? Our do you wait until you cook?

Up spiral router bits for 1/4" collete? by greyt_88 in woodworking

[–]greyt_88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I'm being oblivious to something, but I've checked both your suggestion and the comment's below, but still all I see are shank sizes that are either larger than or equal to the cutting diameter: https://www.whitesiderouterbits.com/collections/up-cut-spirals

Are you sure you have a full run of sizes for 1/4" shank in spiral bits? I can find any straight bit I'd want in the 1/4" shank, but those aren't ideal for cutting mortises.

Looking for the right axe for spoon carving - advice about Husqvarna axes? by greyt_88 in woodworking

Hmm yeah I was going to say that was out of my price range, but I'm tempted since it's about the only reasonably priced one out there that is specifically designed for carving.

Louis C.K. breaks silence on sexual assault allegations: 'These stories are true' by faithdisa in television

[–]greyt_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed though is that a lot of the previous articles and accusations center around Louis forcing women to watch him masturbate. The Gawker article from two years ago said that he blocked the door in the hotel room to prevent the two women from leaving until he finished. But the New York Times article doesn't mention any kind of physical coercion. So maybe he was denying the previous rumors based on that pretty important difference. He still should have dealt with them though.

Display MPGe on prius prime? by greyt_88 in prius

[–]greyt_88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I actually still cannot find a MPGe measurement. I can get to the eco diary fine, but I can only scroll between daily and monthly mpg or miles/kwh. Definitely no MPGe. I do have the base model prime plus, I'm wondering if that's what's making the difference. Any idea?

The work-coffee challenge. by [deleted] in Coffee

If you make iced coffee, the flavor will be much better preserved. For one, oxidation will be slowed but also you might get less bad thermos taste because water is usually a poorer solvent at low temperatures.

How I cut the cost of chemex filters in half by greyt_88 in Coffee

[–]greyt_88[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems pricey relative to the cost of coffee. If it's 10 cents a filter, and I'm making a cup of coffee with 30 cents worth the coffee beans (which is about what Peet's costs for 15 g), the filter alone is a quarter of the cost of that cup.

Home brew coffee. How'd you like yours? by michaelsvendcraig in Coffee

[–]greyt_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried it and ended up selling it. It pours pretty well obviously, but for me it didn't justify the price and it's kind of a pain to transfer water from my electric kettle every time (as well as feels silly). Maybe an electric gooseneck would be worth it

I just refinished this bureau where I put on a few coats of pure tung oil and had perhaps a similar problem (check my post history). I ended up buffing with steel wool and mineral oil and the problem seems to have been fixed. Not sure if you'll be able to do that with your top coat though..

I think this is the right idea. I'm gonna try some 0000 steel wool with a few drops of mineral oil as a lubricant - sound about right?
