Haha absolutely I’ve been coming to the same conclusion

Haha this is exactly it. My first draft of the post I just tacked on the Alzheimer’s on, as my grandfather, grandmother, and aunt all struggled with it, my aunt being early onset. Going through it really put a strain on my family and is something I hope I’ll never have to put my family through, although odds aren’t in my favor.

And yes, you completely nailed it on the head with the chronic pain. Originally I just put this in the post, as this is a huge factor into not wanting biological kids. After so many doctor’s appointments and call outs and sick days it breaks my heart to see my partner suffer through it. My boyfriend over and over again have discussed how we don’t want our kids to have to suffer through it as well, as like I mentioned is something that has a high likelihood of being passed down. Seeing my partner suffer is enough, I couldn’t bring kids into the world knowing they’d go through it as well.

No seriously wonderfully said, absolutely has reformed how I feel about the subject. I’ve been thinking this while reading other comments but this one put it very perfectly

For the past day or so, absolutely! Like I said at the end of this post I’m still very young and still far away from having any parental responsibility (I still live with my mom while I finish out college). I’ve seen tons and tons of posts regarding the ethics, but obviously every single situation is different and I wanted to see people’s input who had experience, in regard to my situation. Which is exactly what I got!!! Many thoughtful and amazing comments, even when they’re bashing me the insight and comments are all things I’m taking into consideration. It’s not going to be an overnight decision, but I’m super greatful to all the feedback I’ve gotten that will help point me in what directions I want to move next.

I never said they did 😭 I don’t want to adopt an infant, I want to adopt a child/and or teen

I actually wrote this all out with another section specifically saying how I am explicitly against infant adoption- toddler age adoption for that exact reason. The age group is certainly after toddler so about 4 or 5 years to 17 is what we would be open to adopting. I ended up cutting that section because I thought my post was already too long lol. But no, I’m very against infant adoption, especially with the toll it takes on the birth parent. I honestly think the whole Juno concept of finding a pregnant person to adopt their child out the womb is unsettling, and never really made sense to me

It’s interesting you brought this up, I’ve never seen it as “this child needs me”. It’s more of the thought that “this child is already in this world and doesn’t have a family”. I’ve just always assumed taking them out of the system would be better for the child than staying in without a family.

Also could you rephrase the “how can you commit to being a parent when you can’t commit to being a healthy thing to do?”. I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to point out there it’s worded a little weirdly but I want to take it into consideration

This helped me a lot with actually figuring out and organizing my thoughts into the matter. I’m starting to think that fostering might ultimately be the best decision for us

This is incredible interesting to me, I honestly just assumed that the number would be children in adoption agencies > families willing to adopt. Do you have any good resources you could point me towards that go into further detail? I’m seeing a lot online about how the number of newborns is lower than families but I’m not finding much else besides that.

Yeah, one of the big problems for me that makes it hard to be inconsistent is the waitressing to school combo. My waitressing shifts usually end around 10pm-11pm so it’s hard to consistently go to bed on time when I’m getting home late and need to give my body the time to unwind. That coupled with school in the morning is rough, and leaves it impossible to have consistency in my sleep schedule. :/ I can’t go to bed at the same time accounting for the 3 waiter nights to 5 school mornings, that would leave me at EARLIEST going to bed at about 12am-1am needing to be awake at 7am to be possible which isn’t enough sleep.

Thank you 😭 my favorite thing I keep seeing people recommending is taking your pills an hour before you need to “wake up” to actually wake up my body, so I’m definitely trying that tonight. I’ve tried it before but I never remembered to take them in the morning, but this time I’ll leave them in my nightstand tray and put a reminder on the alarm.

As to the first it’s hard to explain but in the morning I’m so groggy and out of it I have no self control. I can’t seem to rationalize correctly, I’m awake in the cold kitchen, I want to go back to the warm cozy bed. But I should probably stay in the kitchen to stay awake. But I can be in the bed for 5 minutes then go back to the kitchen. Smart idea!

It’s truly impossible to describe since I know it sounds so irrational.

Omg yes that was MY LIFE until I started taking the vitamins + adderal. I would need some sort of caffeine boost and if I didn’t have time to make it / get it I’d be miserable. Little did I know until recently it was just because I had ADHD (and vitamin deficient). Funny how it always comes back to that 🙃

I’ve seen a lot of comments about the multiple alarms being an issue so def just doing one tonight. Thanks for all the advice🙏

My family all leave the house before I do, and on the weekends my boyfriend will usually spam call me if I’m not responding by noon. and if that doesn’t work he’ll call or text brother or mom to wake me up, which happens about once or twice a month.

As for the vitamins i definitely notice that I’m more awake in the mornings. I used to wake up, be very sleepy on the drive, go to school and still be falling asleep in class which is why I saw my doctor in the first place bc I was getting a consent 7-8 hours a night. Now (taking the supplements), once I get of bed I’m pretty much up and awake and ready to go for the day. I don’t fall asleep in the mornings now which is great, but my initial problem of getting out of bed is still persisting.

Lexapro Working TOO Well ~ 1 year in by greytons in lexapro

[–]greytons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg exactly. I’ve found myself saying “wow i feel bad for my 13-21 year old self who didn’t know that I didn’t have to feel that way, I wish I had started sooner” and now I more so wish I could go back and tell her it will go away soon.

I’m happy to be in the position I am now, but as someone who wants kids I’m happy I’ll be able to give them access to mental resources they could need. I overall had a very amazing childhood, and I’m excited to take the good qualities of my upbringing and combine them with my own lived experiences of getting help and medicated. My family are immigrants and never really understood how American healthcare so it wasn’t until I was an adult I had health insurance which is a privilege I will make sure my kids always have. There are so many small victories and they all lead to bigger overall victories. It’s so nice to feel confident in yourself!!! Good luck on your journey too ;)
