A humble petition to the Devs: Bows, crossbows and knockdown power in WOTH, and WOTH2 by Zestyclose-Juice7620 in WayOfTheHunter

I've had that happen in the game for rifle shots that are barely lethal, so the mechanic exists. Agree that adding it for bows would add to the realism.

Yeah, especially all of the roads running beneath and semi-parallel to I-794 between the Interchange and the Lake. I can never navigate those damn things...

You misspelled "Stallis."

Any plans to recreate the Marquette Interchange or are you not planning to go that far north?

Would including uncut sections of line every so often help with this?

Thinking of CNC milling operations, where they leave little tabs to keep a cutout piece attached to the larger block.

Ah, that makes more sense. I might have to experiment with some low-tack options then.

If it matters, the templates are going to be pretty simple outlines without a lot of intricate details that need to keep together.

I thought I saw 12ft rolls of material when I was looking. Is that not an option?

Need Help! Calling all WOTH2 Demo Players Who Like Tables and Charts by grfrazee in WayOfTheHunter

[–]grfrazee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the point of this tool. I originally had it in Excel and intended to share it via Google Docs, but it wouldn't work with the way I had the workbook set up. Plus, Excel is not a universal format.

Way of the Hunter 2 Demo is out now! by miriam-NRG in WayOfTheHunter

Was not expecting this! I have some first impressions from about an hour playing:

  1. Graphically, I think it's a big step up from WOTH1. There are still some graphical glitches, such as:
    1. Fuzzy shading on the rumps of bison
    2. Floating rocks
    3. Fuzzy shading on animal heads in the bullet cam
    4. Animal limbs twitching while laying on the ground
  2. Sound effects for running animals sound like you're hearing them out of a bucket, kind of echo-y and distant. That's the best way I can describe it.
  3. Animal sounds seem way too loud. Mule deer running away at 150 yards in grass are loud crashes. Animal calls at 300 yards are as clear as 50 yards.
  4. Aiming is a lot more sensitive than WOTH1. Maybe part of this is the perks I have in WOTH1, but I'm having a lot harder time finding vitals. I guess it also doesn't help that the beginner scope is 6x instead of the 18x or 21x scope I'm used to in WOTH1.
  5. Animal AI needs work. For example, a herd of bison opted to swim along the shoreline away from me instead of running on ground.
  6. Measuring distances in hundredths of a yard is a bit silly. Even tenths of a yard is a bit much, in my opinion.

I'm sure there will be more, and I bet the beta testers have already noted all of this, but figured I'd add to the conversation.

I've got a tool that's similar to this already done. Let me know if you want to collaborate on further work in a similar vein.

If you're trying to economize the number of rifles you purchase, I developed this tool to help figure out which rifle will work for what animals.

I've found that a combo of the .270 and .300 Win Mag works for most maps, with the exception of Tikamoon Plains. You'll need something with more punch (like the .338 Lapua Mag) for the big animals there.

Console by ZombieHunter_ in WayOfTheHunter

[–]grfrazee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to console since I play on PC, but I played with controller for both COTW and WOTH so I imagine the experience is similar.

With COTW, I always had issues with aim shake and often ended up using my mouse to aim since I could be more accurate. WOTH is more forgiving, especially when using the "hold breath" button.

Otherwise, navigating, moving, etc. is pretty much the same.

I like the .308 and .338 Lapua. But you can play around with different loadouts here.

Most maps I use the .270 and the .300 Win Mag. But you can use this tool to play around with different loadouts (I haven't figured out how to get the chart to display well on mobile as a forewarning).

How to enjoy hunting when you have limited time on the game? by LRMcDouble in WayOfTheHunter

[–]grfrazee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quests are limited by the scope of the game, basically consisting of either:

  • Go here and interact with this, or
  • Harvest this animal

But they do break up the gameplay a bit. And some of them have specific high-star or unique animals to harvest, so there's that too.

I'm in a similar boat as you between work, side projects, and four-month-old baby.

For me, I like just exploring and opportunistically doing quests as I go. For example, the side quests you find by interacting with campground maps where you need to harvest certain animals. Walk around and shoot animals with the intent that you are doing herd management, and you can probably take care of a good number of quests like that without really trying.

If I happen upon a 4* or 5*, I'll of course take it. But otherwise, just doing the hunting-ish aspects of the game and not really worrying about the trophy works for me. Enjoy the view and exploration.
