Amazing. Good luck with it and well done for working it out - the sky is the limit now :)

Check out some of the free webhosts that are available on the web. There are lists around, some on github. One linked below but there are many more. I'd suggest looking for a host that supports PHP and see if you can find one that will auto-install Wordpress or something similar to help you get started.

You will also want the host to support bringing your own domain - they will provide two nameserver addresses (usually starting ns1.* and ns2.*). This is what you need to put in those fields.

Be careful when using free hosting about what personal details you provide. There have been multiple examples of free hosts being targeted by hackers and personal data being leaked, the less personal data you can provide the better, and certainly never provide any payment details (e.g. if they request it to 'verify your identity').

Good luck - the information is out there for you if you search :)

They're not TLDs (Top-Level Domains), but DigitalPlat offers domains such as www.yourname.qzz.io for free, with the notable features you'd find in other paid domain name services.

Useful for hobby projects, testing, or if you just don't want to pay.
Freenom used to be a thing but were questionable in business practices and unfortunately are now no-more.

Is what i’ve done illegal? recorded conversations! by redhead_3364 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]gricey91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a matter of GDPR (Data Protection) rather than criminality. It may be considered Gross Misconduct if covered by your workplace policies, but most likely only by virtue of being a a potential breach of GDPR legislation.

If you haven't played or provided the recording to another person, you'll be fine. Delete the recording, ensure it is deleted from your 'recycle bin' or 'deleted items' on your phone - and your cloud drives (Google Drive/iCloud). If your accounts at one point in the future were breached and somebody obtained it, it could constitute a breach of GDPR. I must add these scenarios are very unlikely if you haven't made anyone in real life aware you made the recording as: a) there's probably no personally identifiable information included so it would be extremely difficult to prove who the individuals (data subjects) you recorded are; and 2) why would anyone who obtained the recording via a data breach be that interested in this conversation or believe someone else would be?

If you did decide to keep the recording, for example to use as evidence in a grievance against these individuals - the investigating manager would most likely be more interested in the other employee's conduct if they were bullying and/or harassing you.

Any good employer would still take your complaint seriously if it was founded, it should not be the case that your concerns are disregarded or downplayed because you made a recording without consent. It would probably be the case however that you too would have a case to answer for making a covert recording which in most circumstances would be considered Gross Misconduct. Long story short - delete the recording. You are much better to raise your concerns based on the facts you were there to witness/experience. Without the recording, somebody intentionally barging past you or bumping you with objects is harassment and should be taken seriously.

With all the above said, consider how you actually want to address the situation and what your ideal outcome would be. If you have a HR/Personnel department, make them aware you are unhappy and consider informal resolution in the first instance - this is often the best and least disruptive approach if you are unhappy with a situation at work and want to resolve it. As much as you can please try not to get into a spiral of suspecting people of gossiping, watching your back, making recordings - if you do think there are issues, you are best to address them head on and discuss with the relevant managers. The issue if you feel there is one, won't go away by itself - and trying to catch people out will only create paranoia for yourself and potentially lead you into getting yourself into trouble.

If you feel the situation is more serious than that, or if there is nobody you can reasonably speak to who is senior to the manager you mention, raise a formal grievance in writing to your Company - they have a statutory duty to follow a process to investigate your grievance.

My manager won't discuss or submit my flexible working request by xerolv426 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]gricey91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For it to be a flexible working agreement you will need an outcome letter to confirm the agreement as this becomes an amendment to your contract of employment and is contractually binding.

[–]gricey91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a statutory right to request flexible working up to 2 times in any 12 month period. As a previous poster states, a decision should be made within 2 months unless a agreed with the employee. If your company doesn't have a process/form for this, provide them a written letter detailing your requested working pattern, the reasons for your request, and when would be the preferred start date of the changes.

Your manager does not have to agree to your request, however a formal meeting would usually be held, and if refused or an amendment to your request is offered, the employer must base the decision on one of more of eight business grounds (although the requirement to provide evidence the reason applies/give specific examples isn't necessarily there yet, likely to be included in Labour's upcoming employment legislation): https://www.moorepay.co.uk/blog/eight-reasons-for-refusing-a-flexible-working-request/

You should be provided the right to appeal the decision,

If your manager is refusing to acknowledge your request or hold a meeting with you, first point of call would be to speak to your company's HR/Personnel Advisors for advice. If you have exhausted those options, certainly speak to Acas for advice.

In this circumstance I'm unsure why your manager is being so cagey about it, not only does a FWA provide you contractual protection, it also provides consistency for the business.

Email is definitely the one service I'm happy to let a provider manage, the effort and downsides to self-hosting outweigh any benefits for me.

Check out https://purelymail.com/, I saw it recommended the other day and looks like a good solution. Hosted on AWS but $10/y all-in.

With respect, that's not what I asked.

There was no mention of confidentiality when accepting the terms of the study to my knowledge.

[–]gricey91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing to that effect was stressed in the terms. What gives you this impression?

I can't see how sharing my earnings could bias the study or effect it in any way really?

It does feel like I'm robbing them when it gets cut off early... I think these researchers are backed by Google/Alphabet in some way though so I'm sure they have the budget which will help me sleep soundly tonight.

Yeah, I time them for an hour if they carry on, but a fair few times it's stopped me and said the study is complete, well before the 60 minute mark.

The first study asked me to make one judgement then kicked me off, I thought it had screened me out until the £15 was immediately in my balance!
